Comments Thread For: Spence's Trainer: Haymon Made Arum, Matchroom Pay Fighters What They're Worth

Al Haymon's fighters always thank him when they're interviewed after fights, sometimes before mentioning God. Errol Spence Jr.'s trainer thinks even boxers who aren't affiliated with the polarizing, reclusive adviser should show Haymon some gratitude. Derrick James discussed during the most recent episode of "The PBC Podcast" how Haymon's history of helping fighters make more money than they've ever earned dramatically altered boxing's economic model.

Yeah and it made boxers become more a diva than never before in history, robbing us of Rigondeaux vs Cruz just as Hoya was about to finalize it.

Yeah Oscar was trying really hard to make that fight. Just like he’s trying Tank vs. Garcia

50/50 here. On one side, Haymon did change the landscape a bit for the benefit of the fighters. On the other side, now that they're getting paid good money to fight lesser-tier guys, they just stay doing that. Few fighters daring to be great atm. Nobody wants to risk their easy paychecks unless they're on the slide looking to talk their way into big fights. Good for the fighters, bad for the fans.

It’s not just them. Look at guys like Plant and Smith turning down at least $5 million and then haters are blaming Canelo saying it’s a low ball number???

Beat Canelo and your set for life. Rematch would bring you even more. Plus your on top of the world as we saw Andy Ruiz for his 15 minutes

just out of curiosity, which Haymon fighter has a HOF career? Outside of Pac, who fought the majority of his career with Top Rank. None of them. Take a look at a guy like Leo Santa Cruz. Instead of fighting the most dangerous guys (and there are plenty around his weight class), he fights twice a year against guys he knows he can beat.
