Could Canelo get credit winning on the backfoot Joshua style?

I’m sure if he didn’t care about fans opinions he could cherry pick every win on the backfoot. But would it be acceptable? Or is this only ok for huge heavyweights from England?

It's all about context. Imagine that Canelo gets dropped four times and stopped against an opponent he was favored against. Then he signs for an immediate rematch and boxes his way to a dominant decision victory when everyone swore he would get knocked out again. I would give him credit for the victory but of course there will always be those who will criticize you no matter what.

He’s fought that way before and was criticized. He shouldn’t have been criticized for it but he was.

Fighting off his back foot wouldn't even be a winning strategy let alone a popular one. If Canelo were tall for his weight class or had quick feet, that might or might not be a viable option but since he is not, it isn't likely to ever be an issue.

Canelo would get a lot more credit if he would stop the contract shenanigans and simply fight fighters exactly as everyone else in that respective division has to fight them.

In other words revoke some of Pac's title wins? I don't recall Canelo fighting a Lineal LHW and setting a contract stipulation to fight at 168 instead like Ward vs Dawson. I'm sure Canelo is fine. Canelo been going up, Ward had a Lineal Champion come down 7lbs.... but morning rehydration clauses like the IBF doe..oh noes!!

You could take issue with only two of Pac's fights. Ward could hardly be blamed for Dawson's folly. It was Dawson's idea.

Nearly every damn one of Canelo's fights since Mayweather has a special Canelo weight demand attached.

Doesn't pac have titles at like 10 weight classes?

Cotto and Khan asked for CW's???? And that benefited Canelo more??? How far up your @ss is your head???
