I was ringside at Staples Center the night Margarito got busted for the hand wraps against Shane Mosely.
Regardless of the handwraps, I was picking Mosely going into that fight just based on style vs style matchup.
To this day, I am still very skeptical as to what was really found in his gloves.
I have a great a deal of respect of respect for Naz Richardson, but how is it he was the only guy to catch something that everyone else seemed to miss?
He also made the same claim about Felix Trinidad years before, when no other commission has ever caught him.
Not saying it didn't happen, I'm just not going to run out and believe every one of Margarito's fights was fixed, simply because one trainer made a claim.
I have yet to see a single photograph of what was discovered that night.
Also, the second Cotto fight was going much the same way as the first Cotto fight, if not for Cotto targeting that broken eye socket (an ultimate bych move by Cotto)...
But all in all, Margarito was a very important contributor to the Welterweight division from 2003-2010.
I am a huge Floyd Mayweather fan, and I give him.all the p4p status in the world, but that is one fight I think he let get away from him. Would have been a fantastic matchup stylistically.Comment

Huh ? Isn’t that what this whole conversation has been about ?
I mean, I guess as far as anyone could prove he never used plaster. He tried using it vs Shane but Nasim Richardson caught it. So that is what I was referring to. I also believe that wasn’t the first (or second) time he tried to use it. But whatever. The stuff was tested and analyzed and proven to be illegal and he was suspended and his coach suspended for life. Both should have been suspended for life though.Comment

The young man who was there that tested the substance on himself I was referring to is Dundee. The fact you didn’t realize that tells me you haven’t spent much time researching the matter. I said I trust that version of him, while the events are still fresh in his head, ahead of a 2004 Dundee. Young Dundee said something was there that was a lot like acid, if not acid.
And I didn’t say citric acid the second time. Didn’t say it the first time either. I was pointing out that there are a variety of acids.Comment

In fact, Dundee theorized that it was Monsel's solution used on Liston's cuts that inadvertently got into Ali's eyes from clinches. I looked it up and found that it is made up of ferrous sulfate, sulfuric acid and nitric acid. Now I see where your acid theory came from. You could have mentioned that, if you knew.Comment

What you need to ask yourself is, If Liston's corner helped him intentionally blind his opponents with acid, why wasn't it ever proven and bans issued? And why did Ali's blindness only last one round?Comment

Liston had ties to the mob, so it’s not hard to imagine how it could have been swept under the rug. I’ve asked myself all these questions before. What I’ve landed on is where there is smoke, there is fire. None of this is definitive it never will be. The time to investigate was back then. I know what I know though.Comment
