Actually, that’s perfect fight to predict how Frazier beats Lewis.
As good a fight it was, Mercer was a blob - fat and much slower than the fast moving plodder, Frazier.
If I remember correctly, it was a split decision win for Lewis.
Frazier’s hooks were monstrous as were Lewis’ upper cuts! That fight would not last 12 rounds.Comment

I thought Nelson was sh** tbh, I just think he picked up a title no one really cared about and defending it against a load of C level guys, credit to him for achieving far more than anyone expected and for fighting on the road a stuff but his only decent win was Thompson IMO. He got outclassed by guys like Warring and I thought he got a complete gift draw against Guillermo Jones. The other champions of his era like Gomez and Jirov would have beat Nelson easily IMO.
Used to love watching Huck, not the most skilled but blessed with toughness and an iron will. He was always in good fights. I always wanted to see him unify with Yoan Pablo Hernandez, would’ve been a big fight in Germany.Comment

I see a much closer decision -whoever got it. If we're talking prime for both fighters, I don't see a KO of either and Evander does not fade off. Whoever got the decision nod, it would have been an absolute dogfight for 15 rounds. Evander would have given up the advantage in foot and hand speed, but if either of them was going to fade, it would have been Ali.Comment

We’re talking about both of them being in their prime, no?
Ali was the most mobile HW ever. And went 15 rounds easy.
Holyfield would be the one to fade, chasing after Ali while eating serious leather.
Holyfield was all muscles and gave up two inches in height.
Nah bruh, Ali beats Holyfield (not so) easy. But easyComment

With the current global situation I think I can make time to re-watch that fight.
You’re giving me more reasons to discredit Lewis.
I’m not calling him a bum but the guy got KO’d by Rahim and McCall and arguably got beat by Mercer. He also got lucky against Vitali.
It amuses me when I read BS like “Lewis is the only fighter to beat every single opponent he faced”.
They choose to leave out that two of those guys KO’d him and got gift decisions over two other guys.
You know what? I’m now convinced Frazier eats him alive.Comment

I do appreciate your response. It comes with background (historical) knowledge. Every time I counter someone on this site I get cursed out 😏 and the debate turns into a dïck measuring contest. So thank you.
That said, Frazier was nothing like Rahman or McCall. Almost all the HW’s in the 70’s were smaller compared to modern day HW’s but what they had that today’s guys don’t have was high level conditioning. They were relentless with their high volume punches. Lewis gassed out against Vitali and only won that fight on technicality. He was getting beat.
I do like Lewis let me say that. And I hate the boxing trifecta analogy because they just never work but to lose to a guy like Rahman in the fashion that he lost was a huge downer for me. Lewis should have never lost to Rahman. Ever.
For that reason, I give Frazier a good chance to trouble and even beat Lewis. Had Lewis fought Tyson when it mattered, I think Tyson too had a shot. Lewis would struggle against fast moving guys.
I’d say high level of conditioning wouldn’t bypass getting hit by the bigger guys who are well over 30 pounds bigger then the average 70”s HW . I think today’s heavyweights actually got records in punch counts , didn’t Arreola vs Kownacki get the most thrown in a fight ? Don’t believe everything you here ,these guys are bigger athletes today , a well placed punch goes further then volume .Comment
