Comments Thread For: Lopez: Lomachenko Fight Won't Happen May 30; Could Get Delayed Until Fall

Teofimo Lopez doesn't know how long it'll take for him to get in the ring with Vasiliy Lomachenko. The unbeaten IBF lightweight champion is sure, though, that their fight won't happen as planned May 30 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Lopez expected to start training camp this Monday for his biggest fight thus far, but his career is on hold, like every other boxer in the sport.

I wonder how densely packed the fall/winter schedule is going to be, if best case Covid goes away in the summer everyone is going to have the itch to fight. Will we have multiple cards every weekend or will we have more stacked quality cards?

Safe to say fall/winter will be VERY packed. Boxing is pretty unpredictable, but due to poor ticket sales across the board I think we were slowly trending toward more stacked cards anyway.

Then again we'll be so sports starved at that point that they may figure we'll sop up whatever crap they serve us, and continue with s--tty cards. Who knows?

I can see major Europe based cards and major american based cards happening routinely on the same day with different timeslots.

Either way they'll be alot of fighters left to appease and a limited number of dates. So let's hope we get fireworks the second half of 2020.

I predict Teofimo will move up in weight by the fall and this fight will never happen now.

            I’m thinking the same thing
I’m actually surprised the Monzons of this site haven’t accused Loma for this fight getting postponed

Hate to agree but I believe your right. Suks for boxing fans... This fight already was taking way too long.

Well, Teofimo has been calling for this fight and saying he can't make the weight much longer. For quite a while now.

Arum and Co chose to marinate it and wait for Lopez to win a title first.

I really didn’t blame him for that
Teo didn’t actually deserve the fight for nothing
They told him to get a belt and the fight was on
Not Loma’s fault he can’t make weight
