How damaging is it mentally to lose to the same fighter twice?

Don't reckon it phases most of em actually.

All the oldens fought all the time. Especially black dudes under the colorline.

modern examples have been given...maybe it'd help me if some examples of fighters who did lose their edge were mentioned.

Why, notwithstanding GGG & most boxing fans think he won both fights, the first fight was scored a draw.

To answer the question OP, much depends on whether the fighter felt he actually lost.

I suspect Wilder feels he lost both, but he has an equaliser too which gives him a chance in every fight, not every fighter has that. that ought to help mentally.

Quartey should've imho won by at least a few rds aka he should've won by at least 2 pts dlh somehow won by, compubox seemingly agrees considering mostly every rd except oscars rd,he was outlanded heavily, even though he landed a shtton of punches in that rd)

I would love to hear your scorecard if you rewatch it now.

Either way that fight is a fight I will never forget & back then I didn't see ike as a challenge to dlh so admittingly maybe my card was overly wide
Tbf dude I haven’t watched it since I was younger myself. I’ve rewatched the highlights of it but never the full fight.

It was an incredible last round and it pretty much turned the fight on it’s head, the 6th was a great round too were they exchanged left hook KD’s. I actually think Quartey is Oscar’s best win albeit a controversial one.

I also expected Oscar to win pretty handily, Quartey had been inactive and I’m sure he got dropped a few times in his previous fight. However Quartey gave him hell for 11 rounds and was unlucky not to get the nod.

I’ll try and rewatch it soon.

Maybe they no longer have it on YouTube ( last I checked),that must be why nobody has watched it recently.

Not damaging at all if the fighter in question is mentally tough. Tommy Hearns lost to Barkley by KO at 160 and lost to Barkley again by ud at 175 and he carried on with his career and won many big fights afterwards.

I made a mistake. On checking Hearns's record he lost his light heavyweight title to Barkley by split decision not ud. Then he won his next 9 fights before losing again when he was getting old.

Shane Mosley's first 4 losses were two back to back losses to Vernon Forrest and Winky Wright. It showed that twice he was unable to make adjustments.

Ggg LITERALLY is now behaving like a #metoo victim after Canelo walked him down & broke his face apart. He no longer calls himself gennady its now gennadiy,he now says"no mo Mexican style no mo"(aka he abandoned LITERALLY the only style he ever considered worthy of not being considered a coward,he adopted LITERALLY the style he claimed made Canelo a coward)

Now ggg doesn't do interviews, went on a yr long sabbatical & then dragged up a old ass complete amatuer to a catchweight (another thing ggg said was disgrace to Boxing) he abandoned all his mexican fans & he ran outta the 2nd Canelo fight crying because he knew Kellerman would clown him about "running" from a mexican style war he called for.

Now you even have ex mexican fan reporters clowning & disowning him about what a btch hes becoming. He dumped his "like a father" trainer who made him & made his loyal mexican fanbase he disowned.

Mosley would also be a good guy to ask. He lost back to back decisions to both Vernon Forrest and Winky Wright during his prime. Of course, looking over his career, he probably made those up with repeat wins over ODLH, Fernando Vargas and Ricardo Mayorga. Dude rematched a lot.

GGG should've won that first fight, but, you are biased, blind or both if you thought he got robbed in the Canelo rematch.
