He wasn't brilliant but he's a good example of a behemoth being difficult to beat. Holyfield and Ruiz probably got it done.

He had a semblance of fighting tall. Would push out a jab and roll forward behind it. Opponents could stay away or could try and fight a man 100 pounds heavier who could lean all over them and had the potential to club them to the floor.

People are talking about how Marciano was a super-middle/light heavy but remember-

Andre Ward, a super middle/ small light heavy beat Clemente Russo who beat Deontay Wilder who knocked down Fury twice and who most people consider Fury’s best win.

Isn’t the whole point of a swarmer that you’re a lot smaller than you opponent, allowing you to use their size against them ?

Crouching down low so they can’t hit you, going in close so their longer arms aren’t able to generate power, using the stamina advantage inherent in being a lighter man, etc. ?

Admittedly Rocky was as much a slugger as a swarmer.... but that’s also good, he can get outboxed all night long but he just needs to land one solid punch to end it.

The size advantage is just too great. Marciano only has a chance if it is a Haye vs Valuev scenario but Tyson is no Nikolai Valuev and is too long, mobile and cagey to lose to Marciano. The 15 rounds and heat in the arena would be an issue with many big fighters but Fury's herky jerky style causes his opponent to expend more energy than he does especially when he is only flicking out his jab a few times a round.

No one made midcard fighting like they did in 30-40s in 70s-90s,so why would rock now,see how that doesn't make any sense,he was a novice he would be destroyed even by a amateur fury, everyone who said rock wins is a crazy idiot

Forget HWs, I'd pick Bhop to easily UD Rocky.
The problem is bhop wouldnt let it go past 1 even in his amateur form since he was way more advanced than the whole 30-40s,why you said it would go ud Is odd

guys like Marciano were great for his time, but times change, and athletes evolve!

he'd be a ****ing midget in today's HW division

I don't think he ever fought anyone over 190 lbs, what makes you think he'd be able to deal with superheavies like Wlad who weigh around 245 lbs, and who aren't complete clueless bums? They won't allow Rocky to just get inside and pound at them like Rocky Balboa did with the beef!

The Klitschkos were great fighters and specialists at fighting TALL, they would keep the little man at the end of the jab. Wlad would smother and lean on him and use energy sapping tactics, he was great at neutralizing smaller guys with superior inside game and Marciano would be no different (and he'd be much smaller than the average Klitschko opponent). Marciano would get tired and frustrated and finally knocked out by either Klitschko.

Joshua and Fury wont lose either unless they act like idiots and forget their boxing. I don't see Marciano replicating what Ruiz did unless AJ gets even more overconfident again. Fury would toy with him, outbox him all night, Marciano wouldn't be able to get close, but Fury can't punch so Marciano probably loses by wide UD.

Marciano was a great fighter but he's just too small to compete with superheavies. Did you see what happened with David Haye vs Wlad?? Haye (who is quite bigger than Marciano) was way more skilled than Wlad, nobody can deny that, but he still couldn't overcome the size difference, because he wasn't fighting a bum, but a much bigger fighter with skills!!

the klistchkos and fury aren't primo carnero, they're not just tall bums relying on size. they got skills and that's why Marciano would lose, soundly

Lennox Lewis would beat his ass too, btw
The average 70s-90s amateur would destroy any pro 30-40s fighter they look like novices
