Callum made more for Groves than what was offered by Canelo. He didn't blow anything, regardless of what the obvious Hearn haters and Canelo fanboys tell you. Callum deserves $12-15M. He knows it and Hearn knows it. And Hearn's smarter than anyone on this board.

So their answer to that is to make less than 1/3 of that in his next fight? That'll teach Saul! Bad business, imo. Take what Saul gives you. If you beat him, you're the man. If you lose, so what... you never were.

Fighters holding out and trying to squeeze a few extra dollars is one thing but demanding far more then a career payday is exactly why Smith lost the fight. lol Who cares if Golden Boy says they are moving on or not none of that matters it's all Promoter and Negotiation spin. Golden Boy had no urgency to go back to Smith because they had another fighter who willing to fight for less money then Smith was foolishly demanding. And most fans think Smith is the easier fight and lesser opponent not BJS. Hell there is no guarantee Smith will keep winning or ever get another big fight offer he should of got the L his last fight and if he lose any of his next fights. Reports are Canelo's next 3 fights will be BJS, GGG, Murata. BJS already agreed to terms that fight is happening the delay now for it being announced is DAZN is trying to financially come to agreement to land GGG fight in Sept as part of a 3 fight package that will pay Canelo millions on top of his already guaranteed 35M.

Kovalev is in a different position he's a much bigger name and draw in the US and there was a lot of dynamics in play because he had 2 different promoters that needed to be paid off and a mandatory fight he would of had to pay to step aside and last Canelo wanted Kovalev he always wanted that fight to make history. Kovalev himself didn't take home 11M that's how much DAZN paid total his team then split that up with a couple million going to each Top Rank, and his promoter Main Events. If he didn't fight Yarde first then a portion of his payday also would of been paid to have Yarde step aside. It's ****** to ask for money that Kovalev needed to pay off all his promoters and mandatory when Smith doesn't have multiple promoters or a mandatory to pay off and Smith isn't the same draw in the US as Kovalev.

It's not Golden Boy's money and them being cheap they are working off a budget that DAZN has given them. It's DAZN that doesn't want to continue paying these large amounts. At the Canelo/Kovalev press conference DAZN's own EVP said the days of them paying inflated purses are over.

The days of inflated purses are over at DAZN,” Joe Markowski, executive vice president of DAZN, told the Athletic’s Mike Coppinger on Wednesday.

“Like many new entrants to many industries, our tactics (in boxing) were to … play the role of more than a traditional broadcaster in making a fight (and that was by) paying opponents more than their market value. Not anymore,” Markowski said.

“If you’re a guy and you don’t move the needle and you demand X amount of money, we’re going to tell you no thanks,” Markowski stated. “We’re not a money tree that needs to be plucked out by their fighters and their representatives. That message is one that needs to land.”

The message from DAZN was that if you think you getting Jacobs/Kovalev money to fight Canelo no more. And a fighter not on their level came and demanded that same money so he didn't get the fight. It's not Golden Boy's money it's DAZN money and they want to curb inflated purses from B side fighters that don't move the needle that describes Smith perfectly.
I can’t argue with that at all. I’m just saying everyone has their price. If Smith came up with a price that was way too high, I can only assume that they didn’t expect to get the fight anyway, but was worth a shot asking. Maybe it will end up being a huge career blunder, who knows? But it’s not exactly against boxing precedent to be audacious. U can’t argue that the more Smith asks for, it only helps BJS. BJS can now ask for more than he would have if Smith was willing to take less. When there’s only really two opponents being looked at one fighter can drive the prices up forcing someone like Canelo to “overpay” no matter what. There’s no precedent of top opponents undercutting each other driving the prices down. Every opponent against the cash cow seems to end up making significantly more than the original offer. If BJS is supposedly making $8million that’s significantly more than the supposed $5million offered at first. The more each opponent makes, the more it will drive prices up in the future. I’m not saying it was the best move for Smith, but they always end up paying out much more than they said they would. Prices never get driven down in boxing, only up. That’s all I really want to get across.

“Missed a date” vs “rescheduled a date” but its obvious the game you’re playing. How do you even apply that to Smith? Canelo delivered the fight in November. What is Callum going to say, “Canelo missed his Sept. date and pushed it to November...fans know this so I want more..”. Is that your point? Lol

Your agenda got you saying dumb stuff bruh.
Okay I get it, if u ever saw Canelo in a restaurant you would rush to pay for his meal.

Pretty good article, I wish they would have went full circle and contacted the dots to how Canelo accepted trash $$$$ and unfavorable terms to land the Mayweather figth and That Canelo did so because HE REALLY WANTED THAT FIGHT AND REALLY FELT HE COULD WIN back to smith and these fighters who keep saying Canelo lowballed them etc etc. Fact of the matter is that THEY DONT THINK THEY CAN WIN & THEY DONT REALLY WANT THE FIGHT!
