Comments Thread For: Callum Smith Drops Financial Ball in Sidestepping Canelo's 168 Return

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Ahhh to be Canelo Alvarez. To have the boxing world by the tail to the extent that you can intermittently drop into a weight class super middleweight, in this case and make a fight an event simply because you're on the marquee. He did it 15 months ago between higher-profile championship dates at 160 pounds, chasing an...

      No he couldn’t

It would have been a fun fight for a few rds then Canelo hurts and hurts him badly and Smith knew that that’s why he wanted to cash out.

All these fighters claim they want Canelo and dream of fighting him and talk confident of beating him on camera until it’s time to sign on the dotted line!

Reminds me of these new fake Tyson Fury fans trolls on here who yack absolute garbage about pro fighters who lose once but would disappear and make up excuses if someone challenged them to spar!

I always felt Canelo would stop Callum cuz he isn’t a good inside fighter and with head movement an jabs you can get on the inside!

The Smith family would’ve had two boys changing their last names to “Alvarez” if Callum would’ve found his pen!

Lol, Canelo doesnt hurt ANYONE badly...he isnt a massive puncher, good body puncher sure, but doesnt hit hard enough and often enough to cause much damage.

Disagree with the article. Reportedly, Callum turned down a decent but not great offer, and expected to receive a counteroffer - which is normal in any business. Golden Boy said ehhh and went after BJS. Don't think this qualifies as dropping the ball at all.

              Great points
Every flaw you pointed out can be seen in his fight against Ryder
Had a good fughin laugh in your last paragraph ; about changing their last name
              Hahahahahahahahahahaha

              This sounds right to me
Canelo hurts because of accumulation not a one hitter

I’m still waiting for Canelo to confirm he’s fighting BJS. GBP low balls their opponents, and I know the argument is they’re getting way more than they ever made. But they always come back to the first name they negotiated with and they end up getting paid much more than the original offer. The four unarmed opponents willing to take the fight on the cheap don’t exist. Canelo missed one of his dates last year, and then paid Kovalev more than they ever said they would. Canelo doesn’t take a pay cut and the fans don’t get a discount, so fighting a fighter that comes cheapest is not a good look or sell. Nelo needs opponents. The cash cow always has to give his opponent the biggest purse of their life by a long shot. GBP tells us why the opponent deserves only so much because they aren’t popular then they will tell us why we need to pay full price to watch it?!! Everyone links arms when dealing with the cash cow, there’s lots of fighters but only so many managers and promoters. Canelo has a good chance of beating you up, and nobody expects to win a close fight against him on the cards. GBP were supposedly going to move on weeks ago from both fighters. No one believed that. Yeah things could work out bad for Smith, but this scenario is backed up by years of boxing precedent. I bet Beterbiev woulda come cheaper than both BJS and Smith by a long shot and most fans would have it a tougher challenge and Vegas included.

Maybe before but not now with two titles and the lineal light heavyweight titles
But the boxing world as all the boxing scrubs would be drooling all over this one if Canelo would have the balls to face Beterbiev
Not so sure about that , since he dropped the WBO belt faster than it took him to get lol
