Comments Thread For: Helenius: Ref Missing First Knockdown Of Kownacki Benefited Me

NEW YORK In hindsight, Robert Helenius is thrilled that referee David Fields missed his first knockdown of Adam Kownacki on Saturday night. Backed against the ropes, Helenius hit Kownacki with a left-right combination that dropped Kownacki to one knee 20 seconds into the fourth round of their scheduled 12-round main event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. A stunned Kownacki popped right to his feet after suffering the first knockdown of his career, which led to the previously unbeaten heavyweight contender losing by technical knockout shortly thereafter.

Whether Fields missed it or not , it was advantageous for Helenius
Not sure a ten count could of saved Kownacki but surely would of helped somewhat

The ref did not miss it, he IGNORED it for the benefit of the House fighter and it backfired.

Had it been the other way around , he would not have "missed" it!

I was watching in a group of five and I was the only one saying it was a delayed knockdown and I wasn't sure. The commentators missed it too if I remember right. If the ref calls that a knockdown most would have disagreed.

Seems like you could give the ref the benefit of doubt on that one

Kownacki stood quickly after the first official knockdown too. Why not take a rest and recover a bit on your knees when you’re hurt.
I always dislike it if any fighter does that. Wilder too stood up immediately. That just ain’t the smart move.

You didn’t take advantage of the count to recover.. plus it exposed you jelly legs for an even embarrassing highlight.

I believe that is just instinct for a fighter , jump back up like it never happened
Also , fighters now never take a knee especially when getting their azz handed to them
            Why not ?
They can benefit from it and maybe even come back to form lol

Fury got KD by a grazing shot to the back of his head against wilder I and he still took his time to recover before standing up. Some are just smarter than the others I guess.

Marquez also took his time when he got KD thrice by pacquiao in the first round.

              Im sure there’s many others.

It’s a bit ego and instinct i guess. Go stand right away and act like you’re not hurt lol

                That’s what I would think
But in reality, they are just hurting themselves

It was a delayed KD where he dropped to a knee and got back up. It wasn't a fix.

I had to rewind it a couple times to see what dropped him. Ref's don't have that ability.

We have no idea what the ref's intentions were... We can only speculate. I'd imagine the ref was just trying to do his job but missed the knockdown. He should be hanged.
