  • Comments Thread For: Helenius: Kownacki Has Good Power, But He Was Too Open To Get Hit

NEW YORK Robert Helenius walked away from the ring Saturday night with an immense amount of respect for Adam Kownacki. The veteran Finnish fighter felt Kownacki's power and admires the Brooklyn-bred heavyweight's toughness. The 36-year-old Helenius knew, though, that he'd be able to hit Kownacki almost at will because the previously undefeated contender's defensive deficiencies leave him vulnerable at times.

See that Wilderlites watch and learn. He took his loss like a man and for that I will be rooting for him next time. No costume being heavy, tampered gloves or suggesting your opponent is on performance enhanced drugs. In fact Wilder started the costume excuse but his subjects took his excuses to a new level. At least Wilder has distanced himself from the absurdity.

You gotta laugh how straight Helenius states what we've been thinking for these past years.

How can he not take advantage of the situation, when his opponent is open to get hit as easy as pie?

Reminds me of Librado Andrade, coming forward thinking he can take all the shots he could see

I think Kownacki needs to keep his attacking style but move his head more. He should look at someone like Chisora and how he fights now. He's always in front of you but not necessarily easy to hit. Kownacki still has a lot of positives though.

It was a good thing he learnt this lesson now. I just think he had no respect for Helenius and paid the price. AK never been stopped and hasn't been in with hard punchers. Probably thought he was pretty much invincible.

He's been in with hard punchers, but I don't think he's been with anyone like Helanius who can punch hard on the back foot. Most fighters can't do that.

            Correct.

Its a shame he had to find out the hard way

I was just thinking the same thing. When it's all done and forgotten because everyone who boxes loses sometime, everyone will remember if you acted like a man, or cried and winged and blamed everyone else like a beyact.. Mark of a warrior.

You can stick a fork in him.
                The.guy.is.just.not.good!
Trying to scam his way to a title shot and it backfired ....hard!
                Enough already.

Feel free to carry on the discussion about Wilder instead of this bar room fighting clown.

He is exactly like Chris Arreola. His career will likely go in the same direction. The no defence / lack of discipline approach shortened Arreola's prime years & will probably do the same to Kownacki. Fun guy to watch but will probably never get to the next level. Good motor but doesn't always show up in the best shape. I gave Kownacki the 1st & 3rd round. Helenius stopped him in his tracks & even backed him up a few times. He caught him with a great right that should have been called a KD & that was pretty well it. He never recovered. That is a big win for Helenius. So I wonder if he will get the winner of Charr/Bryan?

Just like he was vs Charles Martin and Chris Arreola

Fighters have to work on their craft and always look to GET BETTER instead of just looking for the easiest Route to a Payday
