Mikey Garcia was being tagged a lot by Jessie Vargas, but Jessie Vargas is a solid volume puncher puncher. That was a decent performance from Mikey and I think this was definitely a better version than the one that fought Spence. After seeing Mikey vs Spence, I didn’t think he’d stand a chance against any welterweights. I had the same reaction when Marquez moved up to 147 to fight Mayweather. After losing to Mayweather, Marquez went on to arguably defeat Pacquiao at 147, to then knocking him out in the rematch, and then he beat Mike Alvarado. I think that Marquez wasn’t really adapted to welterweight when he fought Floyd and that he would have performed better if he had the he was adjusted to the weight like he was when he fought Pacquiao. Was Mikey’s first move to 147 a fluke? I’m not saying he could have beaten Spence, but could he have given us a better fight with more time to adapt to the weight?

He looked better because they lowered his level of opposition. Vargas has always been a B level welterweight. Imagine if it was Thurman,Spence, pac,Porter,Danny,or Crawford landing those same shots on garcia. Can garcia hold his own against the regular welters? Sure,he showed that last night. Can he beat the top 6? No,I really don't think so. I'd even favor ugas and the guy who gave Crawford trouble over garcia, due to size and power. -
Im a Mikey fan but this shouldve been Mikeys first fight at WW. Mikey isnt exceptionally fast so a rise in weight needed to be taken slowly to see his reaction to power and to get better timing. I was rooting for him against spence but when I seen spence jumping rope with a weighted vest during training camp, I knew Mikey was too small and not fast enough to cause spence problems.Mikey Garcia was being tagged a lot by Jessie Vargas, but Jessie Vargas is a solid volume puncher puncher. But again Mikey shouldve taken 2-3 fights before challenging for a title. Vargas, Dulorme, and Shawn Porter wouldve been a good build up. But I think we get Garcia vs Pac next.Comment

I wouldn't mind seeing Mikey vs Porter I believe it would be a fun fight. I'd like to see him against DSG too even though I think that would turn out the same way the Spence fight did.
If he fights Pac next I dont think a win puts him in the top 5 in the division either as odd as that sounds. Any of the good more rangy and fluid welters beat him IMOComment

it's clear as day what mikey is trying to do here... he's banking on pac getting old over night so if he get the fight and beat manny, then he'll be the top dog at 147.Comment

Crazy to think we'll never get Garcia vs Loma.
I don't think Mikey beats any of the top 10 guys either. Whether it's Danny, Porter, Ugas, etc....
He doesn't beat Spence in a rematch, he has little chance against Crawford. I highly doubt he beats Pac if we get the same version as the Pac that beat Thurman. Oh yeah and he doesn't beat Thurman either.Comment

Vargas has won 3 of his last 8 fights. I don't really understand how scraping a win against him is proof that mikey has arrived at welterweight, he looked like crap to me again.Comment

at this point, i think mikey is too big for loma and will beat him. i dont think this fight is ever gonna happen anymore. mikey is at 147 now. and even if he loses in his next fight at 147, i dont see him going back down anymore. that would be his 3rd fight at 147 so i think his body will fully mature into this division by then.Crazy to think we'll never get Garcia vs Loma.

I think Mikey needs to change his style for welterweight, his style doesn't mesh well against guys who are bigger and heavier then him.Comment
