Whitaker was flashier but Chavez was doing a lot of good work that night too.
He wasn't schooled. Chavez had to overcome a serious speed disadvantage.
The reason the backlash for the Whitaker decision is so strong, is because of what happened in the Taylor fight. Some people think Chavez got away with one there and were overly upset when they thought it was happening again. Remember, Chavez was with King back then.Comment

There has to be tons of fighters regarded as great that you don't know much about. Why pick on Chavez?Comment

GREAT question. Great fighters tend to have great victories. The greater the opponent, the greater the victory, the greater the fighter.
Ali over Foreman
Duran over Ray Leonard
Ray Leonard over Hearns
It's easy to see why these fighters are called All Time Greats. As I'm doing my research, I came across the name JCC. He seems to be regarded as an All Time Great by most boxing fans. That being said, I wanted to learn of his great victories in the ring.
Hence this thread, where people are quick to call him great with no mention of his resume. People seem to think he couldn't beat Duran, but could beat Mayweather and Mosley. I don't really care who people pick, I just want to know why, by way of resume. There has to be something about his career that makes people feel one way are another.
What I really want to know are which other All Time Greats he beat. I've asked who the best fighters he beat were, and nobodies been able to answer.Comment

Do you consider Taylor an ATG? What about Rosario or Castillo? Whether or not there is a legitimate ATG on his resume or not, he absolutely mugged a lot of really, really good fighters.GREAT question. Great fighters tend to have great victories. The greater the opponent, the greater the victory, the greater the fighter.
