    • Compared to what and whom? If we are comparing him to all-time greats he has nothing.

I say his peak and his ability are better than what he managed to achieve. He's in the B area. He'll make the hall of fame but he's not a great fighter or particularly close to being one. I'll go for a B-. Like many of the modern era guys he really would just be another guy in a strong era.

      • Hard B....his record for defenses and his 24 rounds with Saul (1 draw and a MD loss)

Obviously, with tying the MW title defense record.

          • Clearly the worst middleweight of all time. Also Canelo's best win. Canelo is that GOAT.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

How does he have nothing when he tied B-Hops title defense record? It's not his fault that he got robbed vs. Canelo to just miss getting the unified, lineal title.

              • He's not the most skilled fighter, and I would pick at least ten other Middleweights throughout history to beat him. But, he fought everyone they put in front of him, tied the title defense record at 160, he was ducked by several others and robbed 2x against Canelo. I'd give him a B.

The “record” isn’t a great deal. Even Hopkins’ record can’t compare to Monzon or Hagler because they were undisputed from the get go rather than being a beltholder for years before unifying.

I do agree he beat Canelo twice but I also don’t think Canelo is an overly special fighter.

Imho the 'hate' that GGG has gotten on this site, is so far out of left field, that a lot of those who are rather neutral or 'fans' of GGG have to try and go a bit overboard on slighting him as well, just to try and appear neutral and objective.

The dude's resume at MW stacks up with just about anyone else there...as many good wins as anyone, no bad losses...no official 'great' win but most greats even only have maybe 1 'great' win at MW...and GGG should probably have 2 imo for his fights over Canelo...but that's not the way it went for him with the judges.

Also...if you put on film of GGG and then film of a lot of past greats...imho there is a lot of romanticizing of past fighters, to say that a lot of them could compete in more modern eras...fighters then were largely amateurs, not even focusing full-time on the sport...athletes today are just bigger/stronger/faster generally compared to the past greats.

But I agree with ya...GGG's run at MW stacks up well with any other great MW, if people don't see that, they just don't want to see it imo.

Let's put this into actual context: So, you think GGG has to be rated in the top 3-4 best middleweights of all time to even matter?
You said, he has 'nothing' to stand on, right? I don't think that's fair.
