Deontay Wilder knows people don’t understand why he has stated numerous times that he “wants a body on his record.”

The hard-hitting former WBC heavyweight champion doesn’t expect people to understand, either, his insistence on going out on his shield, even if it means dying in the ring. But that’s the way Wilder feels.

It’s why Wilder remains “hurt” by assistant trainer Mark Breland’s decision to throw in the towel during the seventh round of his rematch against Tyson Fury on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Breland believed Wilder was taking too much punishment in what had become a one-sided fight and has been widely applauded for stopping it. Fearful for Wilder’s long-term health, Breland threw in the towel even though Wilder always has instructed him never to do that.

Jay Deas, Wilder’s head trainer, also told Breland not to throw in the towel when Breland first mentioned it earlier in the seventh round.

“My people, all my guys know that I’m a warrior,” Wilder told BoxingScene.com. “I fight on my shield, and that’s what I abide by. Look, if I say I’m gonna kill a man in the ring, I’m gonna abide by that same principle as far as receiving that same punishment. I always said my pride would get me killed in life. I’m talking about speaking things into existence, believing it would happen that way. So, I have to abide by the same principle of the reaction of what I abide by.

This dude is definitely cut from a different cloth. I'll say this I don't agree with his statements At All but that's him and the way he choose to live his life. One thing we know about Wilder is that he's consistent about what he believes regardless of whether or not people agree with him or not. But looking at these comments from purely a boxing stand point this is the reason why refs and trainers have to look out for fighters because they have a different mindset than regular people. You have to be some kind of character to risk your health fighting for money. We don't know how many fighters feel the same way but just never speak on it like Wilder does. Also I commend him on giving Fury a rematch because he could have easily moved on to a different opponent and just let the draw against Fury be what it was. He's definitely a prideful man but that's gonna be a detriment to him in the long run.

A man of conviction?? I think he is too. But these crazy excuses are making him look mentally weak. He’s becoming the laughingstock of boxing.

Look dude losing isn’t suppose feel good. But don’t mask the loss with ridiculous excuses. Lots of fighters lose and then come back to win a rematch without making excuses.

Plus I love a dude who pursues his dreams and really goes for it. Wilder is one of them in a lot of ways but dude is looking like a joke with his reasoning for losing. He needs to accept the loss like a man, because if he accepted it like a man then he wouldn’t talking ****** with these excuses. He just needs let this loss burn him on the inside and then come stronger.

        • All this has without doubt tarnished Wilder's reputation beyond repair.

All he had to do was congratulate Fury on being the better man on the night. Say that he was going to take a week out with his family before going through the video with his team before making a call on the trilogy - that's it.

After such a one-sided beatdown, excuses are kind of irrelevant. Imagine if it would have been close? Now he's just making everything 10 times worse for himself and his hapless fans who are still defending him by 'respecting what he represents '

Just take a minute to consider how he's representing himself?

          • So you were willing to die in front of your woman, daughter and family in a boxing match? GTFOH. You're just humiliated by the fact that your corner saw you were helpless and threw in the towel.

            • A couple of days ago I made a thread about how all the pieces were falling into place for a fatal third match. I guess you were all still trying to wrap your head around what you just saw in the fight because no one commented. Since my thread went up he has fired the man who saved him, dug in on an excuse so lame that it makes me question the state of his brain, and now he is talking about getting killed.

              • Wilder tweeted hours after Joshua's loss: "He wasn't a true champion. His whole career was consisted of lies, contradictions and gifts."

Oh how those words have come back to haunt you.

Not only did AJ take his defeat with dignity he also deserves credit for maintaining his silence after this shillacking.

It's like the old cliche, you learn more about a fighter in defeat tha you do victory.

                • if death is better then defeat and he got defeated does this mean he will hang himself?

                    • I get the impression that Jay Deas wouldn't give two ****s if he went out in a body bag tbh.

Hopefully the guys that carry his corpse don't have skinny chicken legs that get tired or they might not make it out of the venue.

They could use weighted vests to practise.
