Can Fury surpass Canelo as face of boxing

    English speaking

    Heavyweight

    Charisma

Obviously Alvarez has Hella mexican fans but I think Fury can bring heavyweight back to the top.

It's possible but there's a lot of politics that he would have to be the beneficiary of. All he can do is continue being brash, outspoken and start fighting aggressive and get more KO's. Not likely going to happen though...but after this fight things may be looking up for him.

I think so, pretty much for all the reasons you said, but charisma above all others. Canelo is closer to the American market, however, plus Fury is quite mercurial in that he can put on a masterclass against a top-level rival and then look mediocre against fringe opposition. That probably means that he needs consistent high-level opposition, which is scarcer at heavyweight.

No, only due to the amount of fights he has left. 2/3 max and hes gone.

          he already did.

          1. fury speaks perfect english canelo doesnt speak any english (at least with american media)
          2. fury is very charismatic and funny while canelo is an absolute bore
          3. gives exciting dramatic fights while canelo has boring fights (jacobs, chavez jr, kovalev, etc. etc.)
          4. heavyweights are taken more seriously because they are average or above average height while canelo is basically a midget at only 5'8"

only mexicans get excited for canelo. the world gets excited for fury the same way the world gets excited for pacquiao.

I'm still trying to work out what metric makes somebody the face of boxing?

Canelo is only big in the Mexican market and lucky that there are a lot of Mexicans in America.

I believe many Mexicans don't follow him as they know he's been given gifts and now chooses his opponents.

If anybody is the face of boxing I would think it is AJ and now Fury, universally recognised and for example AJ generates much more money than Canelo ever has. Canelo has only done super well with another popular fighter, e.g GGG or JCC Jr.

Look at AJ, he can fight unknowns, sell out 90,000 in minutes and generate 50-100 million per fight.

Canelo has the Mexican fanbase but Fury is a HW, has more charisma and has bigger fights available for him at this point. So it could definitely happen.

There's no single face of boxing around the world. It's still Pacquaio in South Asia.

People know who Canelo is in California but if I mentioned him in Seattle people would think it's some kind of mall pastry or dog breed.
