Comments Thread For: Andre Ward Feels Wilder Should Not Do Trilogy, Explains Why

Former two division world champion Andre Ward was ringside on Saturday night when Tyson Fury stopped Deontay Wilder in seven rounds to capture the WBC heavyweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Wilder was dropped in the third and fifth, before his corner threw in the towel in the seventh.

He makes sense for sure but the big issue is will Wilder ever get a payday that large again? He might not ever get a chance at Fury again if he declines the immediate rematch especially at 34 years old. He’ll have to go through a bunch of other guys that are a high risk level for way less money.

I've always criticized Wilder for thinking he didn't have to work on his skills just because he was a heavyweight with big power.

He was kind of cocky about it too.

Well, this is the result. He ran into someone that he needed more tools against. And those tools weren't there.

If he rematches Fury immediately the result is going to be the same. He needs a complete boxing makeover to be competitive, and those don't happen overnight.

The only fighter who beats the Tyson Fury who showed up Saturday night is Fury himself. Fury, like Roberto Duran, is his own worst enemy. Maybe Wilder should do what Ray Leonard did and get Fury back in the ring as soon as possible, hoping Tyson partied non stop and will come in out of shape. Or maybe not.

I believe Ward advised him not to rematch Fury after the first fight also.

I don't know if I could watch a third fight immediately. I'll catch the video upload afterwards if they do it.

I'm not that sure there will be anywhere near the money in a third fight as there was in Saturday night's fight. Seems to me the outcome is fairly predictable. Without the proper amount suspense as to the winner the fight won't sell well. I didn't see anything from Wilder that tells me he has much of a chance against Fury.

Knockout Out Power Go Viral and that is nice and it is needed for the sport of boxing but SKILLS PAY THE BILLS...FOR A LONG TIME!

Wilder never added anything to go with his Power and that is really unfortunate. The funny thing is, watching an Olympic Clip of Wilder, he was much more under control and had better Technique as a Amateur/Olympian compared to him as a Pro. Whoever was training in for the Olympics, maybe he needs to give that guy a Call! Yeah still kinda Wild and Technique wasn't the best BUT it was way better than the way he fights now...
