Forget Great White Hope. How about Great American Hope!?

The few people calling Fury a "great white hope" were silly. The heavyweight division was dominated by a white guy for almost 10 years.

Wilder was the U.S.'s last chance for a top heavyweight champion for a while. There doesn't seem to be a new heavyweight from the U.S. on the horizon.

Check out the top 25 heavyweights from the U.S. according to BoxRec:

    1 Andy Ruiz Jr
    2 Deontay Wilder
    3 Michael Hunter
    4 Charles Martin
    5 Dominic Breazeale
    6 Gerald Washington
    7 Bryant Jennings
    8 Eric Molina
    9 Chris Arreola
    10 Alexander Flores
    11 Shawndell Terell
    12 Joey Abell*
    13 Joey Dawejko*
    14 Jermaine Franklin
    15 Amir Mansour
    16 Oliver McCall
    17 Samuel Peter
    18 Chazz Witherspoon
    19 Brian Howard
    20 Dominick Guinn
    21 Stephan Shaw
    22 Rodney Hernandez
    23 Jerry Forrest
    24 Ray Austin
    25 Devin Vargas

Only 4 guys on that list are under 30 years old. The youngest is 26 years old(Jermaine Franklin) and he looked awful the few times I saw him. No that isn't a typo, Samuel Peter, Oliver McCall, and Dominick Guinn are still on the list.

The only one in the top 30 that might show some promise is #27 Darmani Rock who is 23 years old and 17-0.

It looks like the U.K. is going to enjoy a long reign of dominance in the Heavyweight division for the next few decades.

I think the great white hope thing is pretty ****ing dumb and US-centric. Its also ridiculously presumptous because white Americans gave less of a **** than ever about boxing and the HW division once white Eastern Euros dominated it.

I know right!? It's funny people still bring it up because the division was dominated by a white (Klitschko) and his predecessor is white too (Fury). I guess they don't count as white because they are not American.

I got spoiled with American Heavyweights because I grew up in the era of Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Foreman, Moorer, Morrison, and Mercer.

You need to update your boxrec top 25 because it is way off. For instance Peter is number 70 and Hughie Fury is number 21 and many others are no longer on your list or where you put them and others who are in boxrec's 25 now are not on your list. This is not a correct list today.

That's the U.S. rankings according to Boxrec. It's not the world rankings.

I even said "Check out BoxRec's top 25 Heavyweights from the U.S."
