How come Wilder never learned how to box correctly?

Wilder's footwork is terrible, he pulls back in straight lines, almost no head movement, can't fight going backwards, throws hooks wide and sloppy. His technique is just awful. Really Wilder had to know that there would be a fight at some point where he couldn't be bailed out by his power. Or maybe his trainers deluded him into thinking he didn't need to improve his skills.

I guess all those flaws are why he got KOed by a better fighter.

He kept getting lucky with the straight right. When that fails, he has no plan B.

Maybe boxing was just something he couldn't get. And plus he's flat footed with 2 left feet. People say he's athletic cause of his built but u can see the guy isn't ever stable on his feet. He's a clumsy guy with a right hand.

Probably because he did not have a great (or long) amateur career. Once he turned pro, it was about concentrating on not losing and being able to KO your opponents. With that, he got fixated and got in love with his KO record.

Also, I think his camp is filled with "buddies" rather than professionals. He looks like guy who is the authority in the camp and is fixated on KOing people. Also, while I am not a boxing expert, his camp ain't filled with boxing experts with a history and a good stable. While Wilder has gone in camps with Wlad, Haye, etc. he has since focused on his KO ability and just waiting, setting up, and timing his right hand...and little else. Thus far, just the fear of it has kept most people at bay...but not Fury. Having said that, Fury is probably the best boxing-wise and will probably outbox all other HWs too (maybe not as badly). He made Klitschko look ordinary too.

Wilder will need changes in his camp. He needs a train to "take control of his boxing skills and tactics" not just one who comes to agree with him and give him practice with only a few hints here and there. Only then can he probably learn (even at this age). But he certainly needs to get out of his comfort zone and go away to train (back to the basics of learning boxing and diversifying his skillset).
