Cotto and Margarito on same card.

    Cotto, Margarito twinbill 12/2!

    Saturday, August 5 2006

    By Karl Freitag

Top Rank will soon announce that WBO jr welterweight champion Miguel Cotto and WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito will share top billing on a December 2 SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING card at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Cotto will be fighting in a non-title twelve rounder at a catch weight, while Margarito will be defending his WBO title.

There you go, feel free to discuss.

WTF is Cotto doing? I dont worry about the non title stuff because there is no way they would rush him in with one of those guys yet but Im upset because they said "catchweight".

What kind of ***** move is that? Everyone moves up to 147 but he cant, even though he's much bigger then everyone? Floyd was super small at 140 and he went right to 147.

Tell Cotto to take his big ass all the way there or dont go at all. That sounds just like a ***** move. You might as well not even try to act like he is moving up to WW then because this is more like a 140 fight with a couple of extra pounds. How is fighting at a catchweight going to help him adjust to 147. That means in his next fight he will have to adjust to the weight again which probally means he will fight a bum each time

Cotto was tentatively scheduled to fight Castillo late in the year, JLC can't make 135 anymore, Cotto is having difficulty staying at 140, why can't they fight at the catchweight nontitle fight.
This is of course if Castillo is given the green light to fight.

I think Arum and his problems with other promoters are actually putting Cotto and Margo in a bad spot. This catch weight is bull ****, I hate to admit it, but that's a punk ass move, I know Cotto doesn't care but his manager shouldn't approve this. Cotto needs to find himself a new promoter and so does Margo or they'll both end up missing on bigger fights.

If he's fighting Castillo, I don't mind too much about the catch weight since I know its gonna be a very tough fight for Cotto regardless. However, Castillo puts on over 12 pds before fights, why can't they just do it at 147?

Sure as long as it's a nontitle fight, they can fight at an agreed upon weight.

They both need to sign with Golden Boy Promotions...that's the next generation of superstar promoters. **** the rest..cuz there are no other succesors to King/Arum!

I can see the Cotto- Margarito double header being appealing. I want to see more out of Antonio, and Miguel seems like a decent fighter to me. I won't complain about watching them both in action at the same time.
