Comments Thread For: Wallin: My Fight With Fury Should've Been Stopped On Cuts

LAS VEGAS Otto Wallin isn't nave. The Swedish southpaw completely understands that he was the "B" side against Tyson Fury, theoretically there to keep Fury busy before his lucrative rematch with Deontay Wilder on Saturday night. If all things were equal, Wallin feels the huge cut across Fury's right eyebrow and the other laceration on his right eyelid were bad enough for their fight to have been stopped September 14 at T-Mobile Arena.

99% of fights with cuts like that would have been stopped. They definitely did Fury a favour.

By that logic, Kavaliauskas should have become the first to drop Crawford as a pro.

Refs have helped Fury twice slow count vs Wilder and cuts in last fight should have been stopped.

It should be a DQ victory for Fury. Wallin was dirty, he tried to punch Fury to the cut after the bell.

Wallin should be lucky he can still keep dreaming how he almost beat Fury. He lost nearly every round against one-eyed Fury.

Wallin speaks the truth. If Fury fans want it their way - Fury beat Wilder and then lost to Wallin.

I agree but Arum would have had that doctor's legs broke if he tried to stop the fight.

He has a point to be fair. If Wallin had the cut it would probably have been stopped.

What a ****** thing to say.

It wasn’t stopped and Fury won, so it was the right decision because Fury was able to fight on.

Of course we have seen fights stopped with cuts like that. But we’ve also seen bull***** stoppages when fighters get dropped, it doesn’t make it the right decision. So next time any fighter get’s dropped, we can refer to a past bad stoppage and say “well he should’ve been stopped by the ref” because it happened before. It doesn’t work that way.

For me, it just shows a weak mentality of fighters when they look for a victory in a situation that they don’t control, i.e looking for a ref or doctor to stop the fight.

If you’re good enough to win, you’ll do it on your own terms, not on a judgement of a doctor.

Wallin should have forced the doc and/or ref to stop the fight. After that cut was made he and his trainer made the decision not to target it, the only time he did was after the bell when he got cheeky and touched it. Joey Gamache really dropped the ball on that, if it were me I would have told Otto to target that cut and every time Tyson goes to paw it, punch his glove so it rubs the cut.
