So Mannix reported there were just some early conversations but Plant is saying an offer was sent. Doesn't mean the fight will happen or anything, but Plant vs Smith and then the winner getting Benavidez later in the year or early next year sounds good to me!

If Plant beats Smith and/or Benavidez, then he is a prime candidate to get Canelo regardless. I personally would have taken the Canelo offer for May, but if he feels it is too soon and he can't get the proper rest he needs, then so be it. Plant did say though he's not just going for the cash and wants to be at his best which is perfectly reasonable. Just the risk is you will never get another shot at Canelo...But if he keeps winning and has multiple titles, then he would almost certainly be in the Canelo sweepstakes going forward.

Ryder beat Smith why couldn't Plant. Benavidez doesn't even have a better win on his resume then Plant. Unless you think a 34 year old career underachieving Dirrell is something to hang a hat on.

Did I make any pick? I said "IF" and I would give Plant a good chance against either of those two fighters. Do you consider Smith or Benavidez elite or something? They are all around the same level. That's why it was hilarious how Smith was the consensus #1 at 168 when he had done jack sh^t to make that claim. Beat an older Groves and all of a sudden became #1 and this beast. Then he fights Ryder and now all of a sudden he is overrated. He's neither the clear cut #1 or overrated. Just a good fighter among other good fighters in that weight class. Let them battle it out for the top position.

They definitely need to get it on. Sampson said it is unlikely in 2020 which I don't understand, but then early 2021 it needs to happen.

IF Plant beats Smith, he goes into a potential Saul fight with 2 belts and a lot more negotiating power, imo
