For now the winner of Fury/Wilder has to be ranked no1. The banana skin situation with Ruiz hurt AJs stock (although he did redeem himself a fair bit with the rematch) but even ignoring that, Fury and Wilder are the other two of the divisions "big 3" right now, and they're fighting each other while Joshua is stuck dealing with whatevers left (and hes already fought a lot of the current top 10 tbf) so he just doesnt have a fight available that has the gravity of beating a Fury or Wilder right now.


Having said that, if Fury and Wilder mess around fighting Wallin and Breazele level guys after their fight while AJ keeps facing top 10 guys he could have a case for the no1 spot again in a year or so. I dont think any of this is truly settled until we finally get a unification fight anyway.

As an AJ fan I disagree with Hearn, the winner of this fight is number 1 but they must fight Joshua at some point providing he doesn’t lose again before then.

I won’t support the winner saying “AJ is irrelevant” as Wilder has been doing. That’s nonsense and shouldn’t be encouraged.

Then he would have a win over Wilder, and also most people felt he already beat Wilder.

AJ might have bigger quantity of B level wins, but his best win to date is a Fury leftover. Then if Fury add’s Wilder to it, which really he should have already, then there’s no contest on who has the better resume.
