They’re not expecting that. They’re willing to take less. The offer isn’t acceptable.

Kovalev never was a big draw ever. After he lost to Ward he was in the MSG Hulu Theater which seats 5600 max and there were 3300 people there at the Shabranskyy fight. Even before that he was never doing numbers. The Ward-Kovalev ppv's were both flops. 6000 out of 10000 people there paid for tickets in the second fight. Casual fans never really got into Kovalev even with his knockouts or skill level. Name recognition or legacy is hilarious. All these guys are right to hold out for more. If Canelo and Golden Boy want a big fight next so badly they're gonna have to pay a lot more. And ALL of his potential opponents know this.

I am all for a fair share. Canelo is the cash cow and neither these guys will do as much for fighting anybody else and let alone if they win.

Let them negotiate and get as much as they are offered, I don't really care. But I don't want people not fighting because they are too greedy.

Look at the AJ situation with Ruiz. A lot of people were offered the OPPORTUNITY to fight for unified HW titles for life changing money but they wanted more.

Now they are all crying that they want a shot.

But are you an idiot? You don't ask yourself whether it's sustainable?
Here you are who can't even answer simple questions how much
you pay per year watching boxing.
You watch everything for free do you?
Yet you're so generous when it comes to spending other peoples' money.

Golden Boy was desperate for an opponent at that time, they needed to get Canelo a fight quickly against someone that DAZN would approve.

That shouldn't be viewed as setting a precedent.

Especially since Kovalev had name recognition in America due to his HBO run. And was familiar to American PPV audiences due to the two fights with Andre Ward.

Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders haven't been built up in the US like that. Not anywhere close to a Kovalev level.

It's not only GBP that would get affected by this.

It's getting tougher and tougher for all promoters/networks to make meaningful fights now with these super high rates.

It's not that the ship has sailed so much as pbc plant won't take that fight for any money. Its pbc.

This is ridiculous. Hearn and DAZN has ggg and Andrade signed and you blame pbc that canelo can’t get a fight?

Smith and Smith, DAZN guys reject offers and you blame Plant, a pbc guy that hasn’t received an offer yet.

At some point dude be a boxing fan and hold your fellow Brit accountable for not giving you the best fight possible for the cash cow of the sport.

If not, at least hold Hearn accountable for rejecting the Callum offer. When you thought haymon rejected offers you killed him.

Kovalev knew he was one of two opponents DAZN approved for Canelo’s next fight and knew Canelo didn’t want to fight GGG. So he told told GBP to f**k off and the result was an offer that doubled. Instead of $6 million (which every Canelo fan said Kovalev should jump on), Kovalev made $12 million.

Smith and Saunders might be doing the exact same thing.

They know Canelo won’t be fighting at 175 next because his team has said that.

They know Canelo won’t fight GGG. They know he won’t fight Charlo because De La Hoya made that rejected offer public. They know he won’t fight Andrade because Canelo’s been avoiding him for a decade. They know he won’t be fighting Caleb Plant because Plant said it won’t happen. They know it won’t be Murata because those negotiations fell apart and the results were made public.

It’s either them, Benavidez (which also isn’t likely) or someone no one wants.

So they’re playing it smart and trying to get as much money as possible.

Let’s see if Canelo fights one of them or schedules a fight no one cares about.
I'm gonna reserve judgement because i don't know if the Saunders and Smith camps are still negotiating or not. They shouldn't expect to get what Kovalev got but they have every right to get as much as they can. With that said, they shouldn't overplay their hands either because Canelo is the golden ticket and sometimes you have to bet on yourself to get what you want. A win over Canelo gaurantees higher purses in the future and they can't beat him if they don't fight him.
