Where did this myth come from that Mike Tyson folded whenever someone wasn't afraid?

I sort of agree, the way Atlas diminishes Tyson's achievements is over the top, the way he talks about him not having heart or not be a true fighter, you don't achieve what Tyson did without those qualities.

I usually listen to Teddy's podcast, and while I quite like it, sometimes I just wish he would get to the point and only make it once, he does seem to love the sound of his own voice a bit.

And sort out that nose, sounds like the dude's had a blocked nostril hes trying to clear for 30 years now.

Teddy Atlas started it. Also said that Tyson never won a hard fight, and always quit like he didn't have two wars with Ruddock and win both of them...

Bruno was another one who wasn't afraid. He buckled Tyson's legs in the very first round of their first fight.

Razor Ruddock wasn't afraid in either bouts.

        Holmes wasn't afraid.
I cant name one time tyson was dropped and came back to win the fight . I may be wrong , this is off the top off my head . But I dont remember any fighter dropping mike and not stopping him . I dont think it was when they werent afraid it was when they were beating him up he threw in towel a few times becuase besides lennox lewis, vander 1 and buster Douglas I feel tyson could have got up and or kept trying to win and or won , but he didnt or he didnt fight back like he wanted to win and the ref stopped it . That or he just sat there and didnt try to get up . That being said these were all fights where mike was past his prime that I just referenced . I think tyson def lacked a bit of mental fortitude for the type of man he portrayed but I think he was fighting for money at the point of his " **** it iam throwing in the towel" moments . I think he gets a bad rep from holy 2 as he def looked for a way out . I don't think he gave up when guys werent scared tho he was just a bit of a bully who wasnt the same monster when guys were taking it to him win or not .

It isn’t a myth. Tyson is undefeated in fights where the opponent soiled himself.

His record against people who weren’t afraid of him is much worse than that.

He was still a great fighter. No one ever implied he became a bum and would easily lose if someone stood up to him. The idea was he couldn’t be beaten if his opponent bought into the hype and was afraid of him.

Mike had an incredibly underrated chin. Has anyone other than Douglas, Lewis and Holyfield even dropped him?

I think mike had a great chin . McBride, Williams both dropped him but again I called myself out on both those references in my post as he was a complete shell at that point .

This. Atlas was the first person I've heard suggest it & certainly is the person I've heard bring that theory up the most.

Thanks. Never bothered to watch those fights. They're like Ali/Berbick to me.
