Which would have been almost too brutal to watch

He said it himself...Boxing is not what he does, it's who he is. I figure he wants to see if he can still compete. He, and we, will find out soon enough.

I've always enjoyed watching him fight. Hoping it goes well for him and he makes some money if that is what he is after.

And therein lies the problem with taking on a bum. The guys with the titles will not be easy targets.

If he is in the same condition he was when he fought Cotto no one will get props for beating him. Cotto got more props for losing to Canelo than he got for beating Martinez. IMO. That speaks volumes about his physical condition for the Cotto fight.

I hear ya Tony, was just trolling a bit...have never understood the overrating of wins over past prime fighters, especially above their best weight.

Seems to me to be like beating a 7/10 fighter...or the equivalent of beating a good solid pro more or less in his prime...some seem to overrate those wins over past prime guys because it suits their narrative for their favorite fighters.

I really enjoyed watching Martinez. I didn't see all his major fights but what I saw I liked. He was a brave fighter and always responded to adversity. Hope he doesn't end up like Tommy Hearns and other fighters that go on too long.

yes well said...I share your sentiments completely...it's very hard to see any boxer/fighter go on when they should pretty clearly have hung them up
