Comments Thread For: Frank Warren Explains Anthony Yarde's Under The Radar Return

Light heavyweight contender Anthony Yarde (19-1, 18 KOs) made a low level return on a small card that was staged at Discoteca Memphis, Rivas Vaciamadrid in Spain. The return was not publicized and kept off the radar.

Is it because he got ko'd by a jab off an old man who got cleaned out by a guy half his size in his following fight?

No, it's cause WBO won't let anyone contend for a title coming off a loss.

I don't really get why it was kept so low-key though. Sure, Yarde lost the Kovalev fight, but he gave him a lot of trouble early doors and he gave it his all in what was a fairly gruelling fight in a huge step up in class. Sure, his next outing was liable to be a rebuilding exercise but at the very least it could have been in the UK on the undercard of a bigger show, and against someone who at least had a winning record.

I wonder about Yarde and his performance against Kov probably says more about how far Kovalev fell than how good Yarde is.

Yarde needs to get in the ring with another British LHW. He could become a big name in the UK if he is involved in a big British fight, then he can go for world honours.

This stinks of trying to manouver him to an easy WBO title. Shameful from Warren.

You don't understand rightfully so bc it makes no sense. The hand thing is a BS lie and they wanted him in for the WBO title plain and simple and the WBO told them you can't fight for their title coming off a loss unless it's an immediate rematch clause or they order it due to horrible judging. So they put him in with literally a MIDDLEWEIGHT who was 4-48 with no chance. When have you ever seen a so called top fighter do this??? That's why everyone leaves Frank Warren. If I was the WBO I would move him the opposite way in the rankings for fighting someone like that.

Yarde needs to face some stern tests before going back in for another title shot.
