It has got old for me.

But it was a good lesson in that you can build someone up as much as you want but no fighter is invincible. Fighters with unbeaten records either pick fights or don't fight enough good fighters

Wish certain people on this forum will learn this.

I'll still stick to what I've been been saying.Cus era Mike unbeatable After Cus death any decent heavy has a chance. When mikes trainers changed he began to change.he didn't stay as fast explosive and sharp as he once was an his technical skills decreased. So yea buster and the rest of the heavyweight division lucked out after Cus died.

Wasn't there some controversy regarding the ref not starting the count like he should have after Tyson knocked Buster down? He was down like 3-4 seconds before the ref started the count.

Michael Johnson didn't become a truly great sprinter until the 1990s, when Tyson was a shadow of his former self.

The take-home lessons, for me, are somewhat different.

The first is that an athlete, regardless of his innate talent, is only as good as his training and motivation.

The second is that IF someone believes themselves unworthy of success they WILL find a way to self-destruct. Tyson didn't just "happen" to fire Kevin Rooney, get fat, abuse substances, barely train, surround himself with sycophants, blow through hundreds of millions of dollars, etc.--these were CHOICES.

I hold a huge spot in my heart for Tyson. I met him when I was 11 years old and he just couldn't have been nicer. He was larger than life to me when I was a kid. Really admire a lot about the person he's evolved into these days too. My family would all be glued around the tv whenever he fought like I'm sure millions were. Yes he was a great champion and one of the most famous athletes of all time. But his highlight reels are also filled with KO's against mediocre opposition and he lost to the the other greats of the time. Again he was a great champion but I feel he's also the most overrated boxer of all time. "Prime" Tyson this... "Prime" Tyson that... It's all you ever hear from some people when his name comes up.

You hear "Prime Tyson" this & that because it's true. Prime Tyson was a monster, who's the only person who ever knocked out Larry Holmes, even thought he fought for another decade after he fought Tyson.

He destroyed Spinks, who beat Holmes twice.

He beat every fighter in Ring's Top 10 Heavyweights (including the champion) the year he became champ with the exception of Buster Douglas & Tim Witherspoon.

He was murdering top 10 heavyweights.

It's worth periodically listening to Colonel Bob Sheridan call the fight and pick up on the signs pointing to an upset as they happened rather than fawning over the favorite right up until he is knocked out, like some celebrated announcers we know such as...

If Tyson had not been doing what he was doing the days before the fight he wins. He didn't treat it like a fight like Douglas did. Even Tyson's corner was so confident of a first round KO they brought no enswell for his swelled up eye.
