Just like he was gonna block Loma from fighting Rigo?Comment

Inoue goes forward, so Rigo could fight off the back foot and counter, which plays to his strengths. Arum wants to sell Inoue to the US market, so Inoue might feel under pressure to look good and overreach, which is what Rigo does to all of his opponents not named Loma. If Inoue boxed smart, it could be a snooze-fest for casuals as it would get technical, and I don't think Inoue has Loma's level of skill/experience to immediately take away Rigo's foot control and lead hand like Loma did.
So can't see Arum going for it at all - too high a risk that his new signing ends up having to grind one out and people switch off.
It might be true that Inoue sees a potential legacy notch and pushes for it, but after Casimero, legacy is better served by unifying vs Oubaali (or Oubaali/Donaire winner assuming that goes ahead), which takes Rigo past his 40th birthday..all assuming Inoue wins his next two.
Nery/Rigo in the interim would be nice, although not sure Nery can make 118 any more - either way Rigo would be best served staying active while hoping for an Inoue shot (which Arum would still do his utmost to nix).Comment

definitely intriguing fight...high risk low reward type of fight for inoue tho
i'd like to see it

Way different - Loma's father calls the shots with Loma's opponents, and his father knew Loma had Rigo's number (especially at 130, although Loma has Rigo's number at any weight).
Pretty sure Ohashi (Inoue's co-promoter with Top Rank) will take Arum's advice on opponents for the US market - can't see Ohashi talking Bob into this one.Comment

This is actually a bad style match up for Rigo at this stage of his career. He is now showing the signs of an aging shot fighter.
He no longer has the same hand to eye coordination that he once had previously, he's throwing fewer punches and lastly, he doesn't have the same snap or pop on them either to check Inoue as he applies smart pressure on the older man.
Arum would be more than happy to oblige by putting his guy in there with Rigo now at this stage. It's because Bob knows that his guy will likely win easily; Possibly by way of knockout.Comment

Hope this fight materializes! Japanese boxing fans have high regard for Rigo and it would be a sellout. As long as it was held in Japan, the money would not be the issue. As co-promoter, I think Arum's assessment of whether Rigo can beat Inoue or not is the key. He's not going to risk Inoue's future earnings unnecessarily.Comment

That's cool. I won't pretend anyway that I know many things but there's one thing I wanna say - Rigo is no longer the top player that he used to be and if he wants to get back in it he needs to earn it back, especially if he's targeting the biggest name in the lower weight class. Maybe a match against Nery would put him back in position.
I do agree though that he's been avoided by everyone around 118-122 during his prime time. Even Donaire tried but just couldn't get away with so many cries from the fans here. I guess you need to have a large Mexican or British fanbase to get away with the duck. Oh wellComment
