Comments Thread For: Deontay Wilder: I Will Be Best Heavyweight Ever When I Retire

LOS ANGELES-Deontay Wilder has grandiose plans when it comes to his legacy. As soon as he hangs up his gloves, the Alabaman believes he will be the greatest heavyweight fighter of all time, and even perhaps the best ever boxer.

the competition level isn't even near what it was for former champions. AJ got starched by Ruiz. That's one of the top 3 these days. Even if Wilder knocks out all of the top 10 contenders, all he would have done is beat the best of this generation. It's not saying much.

If I was Wilder, i'd seriously consider fighting 3 maybe even 4 times a year. His physical peak gets further from him with every passing day and his resume is pretty damn dreadful. If he can smash Fury twice, get a few top 10 defenses then he can really start discussing this kind of thing.

It’s impossible for Wilder to be the best HW ever with this crop of HW’s. He basically only has Joshua & Fury as contemporaries in his era. The jury is still out whether or not either of them will make it in the Hall of Fame with their careers still to be determined.

But Ali beat Foreman, Frazier, Norton, Liston, Quarry, Ellis, Patterson, Lyle, Shavers, Chuvalo, Cooper, & Foster at HW.

From these, 6 of them are HOF’ers (Foreman, Frazier, Norton, Liston, Patterson, Foster).
