What are you scoring in fights/boxing matches?

This is absolutely where both the skill and subjectivity creep into scoring boxing... how many solid headsnapping jabs is worth one stankyleg uppercut for instance, or if a monster cross lands on the jaw of some dude with an iron chin and he doesn't even blink does it count more or less than the partly deflected halfassed hook that sends a china-chinned guy stumbling...?
We all got our own ways of judging, and if we're honest about the way humans work likely we're gonna see fights differently depending on who our favourites are, what styles we prefer and so on... all we can do is try to stick to some consistent guidelines and do our best to be objective.Comment

As a person who is an avid follower of the sport, I watch styles, adjustments, punches landed and punch impact. I go into fights watching which fighter exerts his will on the other, but i also notice when defensive acumen (opponent lands 6 punches in a rd based on your expertise) carries a rdComment

I honestly didn't read everything but I wanted to make this statement and kept it simple.
At the end of the round who you would rather be?
I drives me crazy when people say they give defense credit. No matter how good you avoid punches you should not be rewarded for not throwing any.Comment

Terrible post...that type of logic just invites robberies/bad cards/bad decisions...and excuses away corruption and bad cards as OK.
All you score in a round is who is landing the better punches...that can still be subjective as far who did more damage in the round...but that's all it is...for people on a boxing forum to not know that...especially a lot of people who seem to live eat and breathe boxing...I mean it's sad.
It's not my fault you totally and completely misunderstand boxing.Comment

Not really...you made the comment and then I saw which way you voted (which was the wrong way) so I was just needling you...just always funny to me when someone tries to condescend about something, when they are actually wrong.
You don't actively score anything in a fight besides the punches...all the other stuff is immaterial.Comment

More reading and less patronizing:

"Clean punches: To me, clean punches are the most important aspect, and the other factors are really tied to that. Take the phrase, "effective aggressiveness." How is a boxer effective? He's effective by landing clean punches. How about "defense?" A boxer shows great defense by not getting hit with clean punches"
"Defense: Defense is important because it helps a boxer set up his offense. Most judges that I have spoken to do not give credit for defense alone. If a boxer has a good defense, it means that he is not being hit with punches. But let's remember the purpose of the sport: to land punches on your opponent.
If Boxer A throws 10 punches in a round, but lands none of them, and Boxer B lands zero and throws zero, you still have an even round with no punches landing. You don't want to create a disincentive for a boxer to land punches if he thinks he's going to be penalized for missing"
Will you admit you're wrong or just double downComment
