Comments Thread For: Kazuto Ioka vs. Kosei Tanaka Title Fight Ordered By WBO

Kosei Tanaka is not wasting any time in his pursuit of boxing history. The unbeaten former three-division titlist has exercised his "Super" champion status with the World Boxing Organization (WBO), prompting the sanctioning body to officially order a mandatory title fight between Tanaka and reigning 115-pound champion Kazuto Ioka.

Katutaka Yoshino of Watanabe Promotions and Kiysoshi Hatanaka of Hatanaka Promotions-whom represent Ioka and Tanaka, respectively-were sent a letter of the official order on Thursday, a copy of which has been obtained by BoxingScene.com.

I got a feeling that this jump in weight might be too much for Kosei Tanaka. The current WBO Super-flyweight champ Kazuto Ioka also comes from flyweight, however, hes conformed to 115 and has handled himself well against world-class opposition at Superfly : McWilliams Arroyo, Donnie Nietes, Aston Palicte proved that Ioka belongs at SF.

I'm not too confident that Kosei would of done as well against the aforementioned. Style wise, Kazuto Ioka can transition to a good or bad opponent for Tanaka, I expect Ioka to elect to use a more agile and long range strategy, as that would limit Tanaka.

Holy shít, now this is great! I like Ioka but I would consider myself a bigger fan of Tanaka to be honest. Hoping for a good fight and pretty certain it will be one

Tanaka is getting older, so it wouldn't surprise me if the move up was also necessary on top of history seeking. I'm sure he would have loved to get that IBF title off of Mthalane and get the Ring Belt for doing so. Tanaka and Ioka are the exact same height with only 1in reach difference (negligible) So I wouldnt be surprised if this is 2020 FOTY.

Would have loved to see Ioka get a rematch off of Niettes but he was shook, and the Estrada camp had no interest in fighting Ioka. It is what it is.
