What does that title do?
Do they have to pay sanctioning fees?
How does a fighter benefit from it?
Do they have mandatory fights?
Is there other champs in the same weight class?
If they loose in the ring, does the other fighter gets it?
What does it actually means?
It seems to me it is like an appointed title that has no value.

What would make this good is if they are mandated to fight a top 5 or maybe even a top 3 opponent every time. That way we get a quality fight. They should lose that Franchise status as soon as they fight a lesser opponent or if they lose a fight. For example, if AJ had this title prior to losing to Ruiz, then he should lose that Franchise Title. And then another Franchise Title shouldn't be appointed until another heavyweight's popularity has risen enough to earn it or if AJ avenge his loss and maintains his popularity status. I could see Mayweather or Pac-Man earning this status while in their primes. But Mayweather wouldn't of wanted to be limited to fighting the top 5 or top 3 opponents if it didn't make sense to him. And although Pac-Man had a lot of great fights, I thonk his ego was also too big for the alphabets to be dictating who he fights.
