    So increasing speed has a big, non-linear effect on the amount of kinetic energy created and delivered. Also:

    Power = (Force) * (Velocity)
    where Force = (Mass) * (Acceleration)

    So more velocity and explosive acceleration leads to more power.

    It's pretty obvious Deontay has explosive power, but it's fun to see how speed relates to kinetic energy and power. When he delivers all of that kinetic energy to someone's dome, it has no choice but to get scrambled.
    Yeah, but adding muscle, to a point & properly, can increase speed (as muscles are what move you). And since muscle has weight adding muscle weight can improve velocity; thats why the worlds top sprinters have lots of muscle and arent built like long distance runners.

    The trick is to build it right, and find the balance between being big and fast but having enough stamina. Because the more you add the more you gotta carry around (and that can drain you). And, as alluded to before, sprinters aren't built for long distance. Boxing is as much an endurance sport as it is a max effort sport.

      It isn't just a matter of adding muscle either. You have to add the right kind of muscle which is muscle composed of fast twitch muscle fibers. And there isn't much you can do to change the percentage of fast vs slow twitch fibers in your muscle composition in your body or as you add muscle, it is genetically determined. Interestingly, you can train fast twitch to have endurance but you can't train slow twitch have have speed. That's why sprinters can increase the distance they run but distance runners can't move down.

      I'm pretty confident that if you did a muscle biopsy of Wilder you would find he has a crazy high percentage of fast twitch muscle fibers. That speed is genetic and it's the speed that creates the power hence the power is genetic.

        Yes he does get his power from speed and turning his big upper body into his straight right. When he sets his feet and throws the right arrow straight it is as hard or harder looking than any punch I have seen. The proof is the results he gets with Fury being the only opponent he did not KO.

          If Fury comes in heavier than he did for the first fight then I'm picking Wilder. If Fury comes in lighter I'll go with him to win again. .

            I don't honestly put that much into weight. It's really not that important of a base stat.

            A sledge hammer has weight. A ball-peen hammer does not. They both **** steel up.
            The difference between weight classes is 7lb (3kg). If weight doesn't matter, why the big fuss?

            3 weight divisions is only 21lbs, why not stage super middleweight vs heavyweight fights?

              Putting on too much weight will make him slower.
              The only thing they could hope to accomplish would be to increase his punch resistance.

              I could see the argument though that Wilder was well below his average weight for the last fight and they want him at his average/normal weight on fight night.

                215 to 220 is probably the sweet spot, he could lose his speed if he was heavier

                  Same reason there are many title presently; to have more title fights.
