  • Comments Thread For: Wilder's Trainer Wants Him To Weigh In Mid-220s For Fury Rematch

Deontay Wilder weighed in at just 212 pounds for his first fight against Tyson Fury. That was the lowest Wilder weighed since he came in at 207 pounds for his professional debut in November 2008. By the time the unbeaten WBC heavyweight champion entered the ring to face Fury 14 months ago, the 6-feet-7 Wilder was only approximately 209 pounds, according to Wilder and Jay Deas, his co-trainer and co-manager.

Wilder's weight is one of his best features. In a world with huge heavyweights he stands in line with the big boys being out weighed by 20 or 30 pounds. Speed creates power and Wilder definitely has power. I can't wait till Feburary 22nd it's gonna be a big night for boxing.

Sounds like Wilder needs some training tips from Andy Ruiz Jr ...

The old but true boxing cliche is a good big one beats a good little one.

But you have to compare like with like. If there was some guy who was as athletic as Wilder and weighed 260 he'd probably be in a world of trouble in the ring.

Most heavy HWs are carrying a lot of fat, literally dozens of pounds. That's more a hindrance for them than being lighter is for Wilder.

          Ali-Tyson weights.

I don't honestly put that much into weight. It's really not that important of a base stat.

A sledge hammer has weight. A ball-peen hammer does not. They both **** steel up.

            Physics related to speed:

            Kinetic Energy = 1/2 * (Mass) * (Velocity)^2

So increasing speed has a big, non-linear effect on the amount of kinetic energy created and delivered. Also:

            Power = (Force) * (Velocity)
where Force = (Mass) * (Acceleration)

So more velocity and explosive acceleration leads to more power.

It's pretty obvious Deontay has explosive power, but it's fun to see how speed relates to kinetic energy and power. When he delivers all of that kinetic energy to someone's dome, it has no choice but to get scrambled.

I'm really looking forward to this rematch, the ultimate matchup between pure boxer and pure puncher!
Where are the clowns that said Fury would drop out? There were at least a few of you guys saying things like "Mark my words, Fury will pull out of the fight. Mark my words, blah blah blah."

All true statements even your extreme muscle bound heavyweights such as AJ are too heavy nowadays. It was more beneficial for AJ to lose weight which created better movement. I think Fury would be better at 240 245 he would be near impossible to hit. Wilder is a freak of nature with his power at his size too. I'm really looking forward to the match up February 22nd

"England’s Fury officially out-weighed Wilder by 44 pounds for their first fight."

And still got blasted! That's incredible!

Wilder won’t win under 220, his team knows his best chance is nearer to 230. The heavier guy usually wins so gaining weight for Wilder about mid 220”s is ideal, we saw that in the Breazeale fight . Wilder used weight as an excuse last time .
