Comments Thread For: Can Canelo Alvarez Still Grow?

By Tris Dixon - THE biggest star in world boxing is still without a dance partner. It might be a few months away, but little's been uncovered over whether Saul Alvarez, the man they call Canelo, will face Ryota Murata in Japan, WBO super-middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders, WBA 168-pound champion Callum Smith or anyone else from 160-175lbs. Canelo...

I remember Dixon crying about Canelo with the GGG fights. He even went Breadman style about PEDS.

If anyone knows Dixon. That guy is a real steroid freak in the gym. He assumes because he needs juice for his overweight ass and lifting weights that it applies to elite boxers whom are not heavyweights.

I dunnooooo, caaaaan Canelo still "grow"? "Can boxing rise from the ashes and become the pheonix"? "Can Jermall Charlo finally stake his claim"? "Can Beterbievz stick to the path and do what's necessary"? lmfao

Dixon can be biased on his opinion without researched on PEDs testing done by some boxers.

I love how the writer throws shade at Billy Jo by mentioning his last fight was at a 4th tier football clubs home stadium.

          Anthony Joshua smiles.

BJS doesn't deserve the Canelo fight, look at his last 3 opponents. Callum Smith doesn't either as John Ryder beat him IMO. Canelo should fight Murata in Japan then GGG. 2021 The winner of Andrade and Charlo first and the loser second.

I know it's an outlying opinion but I think that having just one or two Superstar cashcows is the biggest single problem with the sport and the single biggest obstacle to us getting regular top level fights. I know there's the counter-argument that without the big $$$s less talent will be attracted to the sport, but I ain't sure things are quite that strightforward... as long as the paydays are substantial enough that it's a viable option dudes with talent will still do it

When a single fight with the Superstar can earn you as much as 10 or 20 regular fights it absolutely makes financial sense for dudes to wait around on it, refusing to take any more risk than absolutely necessary to keep 'em in the running. You see the same thing to an extent in all divisions but the more money involved the more the politics come in and the harder it is to make the big fights.

It does seem his popularity is as high as it's gonna get, still the big name of the sport but the Kovalev fight didn't catch the attention as much as they were hoping

Are we pretending that DAZN has no say again? They gave $365M to a boxer to stream his fights in the U.S. They will make him fight Golovkin this year or next.

Fights like Murata are straight Cash grabs. Nothing more, nothing less.
