Forget it! Ortiz vs Ruiz isn't happening anytime soon. Al won't put Ortiz up against a high profile contender this early. If Ruiz goes in there and blast him, it takes away some of Wilder's shine; same reason you won't see Ortiz vs Kownacki.

I don't think it would take any shine at all away from Wilder's knocking him out twice. Quite the opposite I think. If Ruiz were to stop him faster or earlier, most would see that as just after effects of being who knows how damn old an having been knocked out twice semi recently while being who knows how damn old. Whyte and Hearn make these vague statements just to get the Hearn fanatics spun up. Ruiz is less than 2 months away from the Joshua fight and doesn't even have a trainer, yet he is supposedly ducking Whyte or PBC is preserving Ruiz for Wilder?

Ruiz would be favorite over Whyte even at 283. Wouldn't it be prudent for PBC to place Ruiz between Wilder and Whyte like Hearn tried to place Whyte in between Wilder and Joshua?

You can't really compare a mandatory to someone who isn't. Hearn was trying to put Whyte in the place of Brazeale/Ortiz, not AJ.

Hearn and Whyte were being opportunistic and there's nothing wrong with that. Right now Ruiz' name still has some recognition and would allow Whyte to try and build his name in the US. They offer a lucrative sum to fight Andy when he doesn't have a trainer, doesn't have motivation and is vulnerable. There's nothing wrong with that, just trying to get an advantageous situation for his fighter.

Ruiz isn't a coward for turning it down, he knows he's not ready to mentally or physically. If he wanted to cash out and roll the dice against Whyte without stability of good camp and trainer that's fine but if he's banking on remaining relevant then he should take a more measured approach.

Sometimes there's not a bad guy, it's just everyone trying to maneuver in what they perceive to be their best interest.

Well said! Andy needs time to work with his new trainer. I accept that! However, I wouldn't go for a "soft" opponent when he comes back. I think it should be Kownacki, Ortiz, or Breazeale! Haymon also needs Ruiz to make some money for PBC, and not DAZN!
