It could be various other factors, eg Tank boxed in the Xmas/new year period. why did Danny Garcia struggle recently?
every territory is different too. Atlanta has a large black population who are prob following boxing and hungry for it.
Furthermore brand Mayweather promotions/pbc are already well established in the US.
in the UK, 10 years ago boxing was flat out dead after Amir Khan left. There was David Haye, but when he wasnt getting the klit fight, people weren't bothered by him
It's a smaller country too..and back then when EH entered the scene, it had his complete attention. Still it took time to gain traction eg the Groves/Froch fight was really the first big moment.
the US is obviously far bigger, what works in one place prob wont work in another. I'm not saying this **** to make excuses for EH..however he made these points himself when he came in with the dazn deal.
It's going to take time and a lot of trial and error, research/data before he can think of the marketing/promotional side...otherwise he'd be wasting money not knowing the market.
put it this way, the guy gets around $125m a yr from dazn..and hasnt spent probably half that over the past yr.
How much you reckon this card and the promotion cost?
Jake Paul was prob paid $1m. Farmer prob $1m at a push, prob even less, Andrade prob $1m, again just guessing. The rest of the card would have been paid a fraction of that.
The point im making is, it takes serious money to promote and EH is barely spending for these type of cards. It would be a waste to overspend until he (and dazn) begin to understand what works.
As the saying goes 'first get your foot in the door'.
Take the UFC as an example, took them years, they now spend on ave $20m a card on promotion, but they profit heavily from ppv buys.
one thing though, i guarantee you James Corden, the least talented most annoying tw*t on tv, is more famous in the US than deontay wilder.
That is the state of american boxing. i dont want to know about 'half empty arenas' given that context.
loma, tyson fury, wilder, they all struggle to sell tickets in the US.
