Why do some forget that GGG accepted the Ward fight in 2013?

I'd be curious to read that whole article.

One man's 'waste of time' is another man's 'duck'...boxing is a business and I don't mind fighters taking smart fights.. that means avoiding high risk low reward fights in general.

I do think Ward was always scared though of losing his 0...for me he was his whole career...he never traveled his whole career and could have given us some big fights with Froch and Bute and even Stevenson but would have had to travel to do so.

Ward was a tough smart fighter so I wouldn't say he was 'scared' to face anyone...but I think he was very calculated with who he wanted to face in his career and under what conditions.

And at that time in 2013 Ward viewed GGG as too much risk and too little reward...and I don't think he would have ever fought GGG on relatively even/fair terms in their whole careers...but that's just my 2 cents and I admit that I am not big on Ward and feel he was very calculated in who he fought in his career and always made sure those fights were on his terms as much as possible.

No shame in that but yeah I don't really believe anything he says...even in that snippet from that article he basically admits to not wanting to fight GGG...and right before that he says he would fight anyone.

And keep in mind his next 4 fights after he made those comments were vs Rodriguez Brand Barrera and Smith...GGG even at that time would have been a much more attractive fight than any of those guys.

      Thanks for the article

I did not get that impression (the bold).
May did not fight Margarito. Due to fear, as so many NSBers would have a person believe ???
May beat DLH, Nelo, Cotto, Mosley, Pac, JMM (who gave Pac life and death events)....but he was supposed to be afraid of some sloth like, no dimensional, never making adjustments caveman like Margarito ???

When I see the word ''Duck'' without an unbiased link to support it, i lol.

Hey 'ducking' is always subjective really...always two sides to the story.

And sometimes there can be real issues that prevent a fight from getting made even if both guys want the fight.

In those cases it isn't really a duck imo...there are ways though of guys saying that they don't want a fight though or of finding a way out of fights.

We see stuff like that all the time...but truthfully it is sometimes hard to tell who is really avoiding the fight and who wants it...usually the guy barking the loudest is the culprit imho.

We all just have to analyze those situations and call it like we see it...all we can do.

Very welcome on the article my friend...I came across it randomly yesterday and thought it was a cool read overall myself

The fight would have been a win/win for GGG. Similar to Mikey when he ''fought'' Spence. If he loses, he was supposed to lose to the naturally bigger man.

Maybe Ward would have gotten a nice chunk of change off of GGG in 13, I don't know, but resume wise, so what. He beat up a littler man.

GGG should have done what others have. Move up, beat up some gatekeeper and then press that real fight. Usyk is doing it at HW.

Imho, GGG had the worst career coaches on earth.

Why Gennady Golovkin vs. Andre Ward Won't Be Made Any Time Soon
              (2015)
Gennady Golovkin: a sensation desperately in need of a star-making fight after two years of blasting out second-tier opponents.

Honestly I think GGG and his team threaded the needle very nicely for him at the end of his career.

His big money fights were always going to be with smaller guys...pie in the sky stuff with Floyd and Manny..and then more realistic stuff with Cotto and Canelo.

Him staying at 160 and seeking those fights...especially Canelo...was just overall clearly the best move imho.

Made like $150 million from all of that...if he moved up...even best case...he probably makes half of that max.

I don't know why GGG had to have more than 50 amateur fights. Ok, maybe 100. But 300+ ?!?!?!

He should sue someone for lost wages

And contracts being what they are, who knows what side wanted what and said nah ??? Ward was right on one front, make your own brand. It's possible.

Don't keep doing the same shlt when it's proven to be the wrong way.

Don't depend on someone ''giving'' you a shot.

If they had fought and there was no CW, I can't see GGG winning, even if Ward had a long layoff.

I sure remember all those famous Kazakhstan boxers before him. I am sure getting a contract in a country with no fighters is easy.
Fighting domestic fighters for pennies sure is better than fighting the big olympic fights.

If after 100 amateur fights and you're still in no better place than the 1st amateur fight, time to change things up. Unless he had an amateur ranks goal he wanted to accomplish.
