Why do some forget that GGG accepted the Ward fight in 2013?

    FACTS.

They also were willing to move up to fight Froch at the time but not Ward. "He was waiting for Cotto or Canelo though"

Even Froch himself said at around the time of the Lemieux fight that the impression he was getting from Loeffler was that they were no longer really interested in fighting him or fighting at 168 - he was talking about even having it above 168 but Loeffler was saying they were really looking at going down if anything.

My sense is that they would have been willing to fight at 168 whilst they were still looking for the big fights but once it started looking like the Cotto or Canelo fight might be on the table they decided to stay at 160 or close to. It wasn't just because it was Ward but because their situation had changed.

What I do agree with is that Ward had very little reason to fight Golovkin back in 2013. For all that HBO was pushing him as the next big star neither his profile outside of the hardcore nor his purses were there yet, not only was Ward in litigation with Goosen at that time (Golovkin acknowledges Ward says something about his promoter and his shoulder) but a GGG fight would have done very little for him at that point.

Way I tend to look at it it's just one of those situations where the timing was just never quite right... I know dudes on here always like to talk like someone's to blame or was ducking or whatever but the real world just don't necessarily work like that. What I will say is that Ward played the PR game far better though - whether or not he knew that Golovkin was in negotiations for his first PPV or not (and given how small the boxing world is it's likely he did) he did know GGG was mando to Canelo / Cotto and that the fight was unlikely to happen, but he nonetheless succeeded in making GGG look a bit of a chump with his offer and permanently deflected any criticisms that he'd somehow avoided Golovkin. I'm sure he would have fought GGG but he probably already knew by that time that he'd be moving up to face Kovalev.

HBO had them both and sat them down and wanted the fight...GGG wanted it and Ward didn't at that time...people can spin whatever they want but that is reportedly what happened.
How do you accuse someone of spinning, when you are talking king about what “reportedly” happened? Think you may have been spun?

Exactly! What he said never happened. There is multiple links out their where ggg’s team called Ward a BET fighter, B-Side, etc.

Ward on video calling ggg a liar. I wish I could still find the link where ggg said Ward very disrespectful and said he said a lot of bad words about him. It was the time they met at a party in Cali where Ward punked him bad.... To this day ggg won’t say Wards name. When asked years ago he wouldn’t even say it to the media

GGG ducked ward and turned down the fight. I always had a hunch that GGG is a huge pus*y even as far back as 2013, and he validated it by ducking top MWs who came to his division like charlo and andrade.

Kovalov and still do! Provodnikov, Lomachenko, ggg.

I just can't stand ggg fans. You have to remember these are the clowns with the double/triple standards and SCREAM duck on the other fighters.

                  They CRY Canelo ducked GGG
                  Ward ducked GGG
Ward ducked Bute (I still can't figure that out)

                  IGNORE statements like

Abel Sanchez, stated just before the KOV/Ward fight that his star pupil would defeat not only Ward, but 175 lb champions Kovalev and Adonis Stevenson, too.

ESPN’s Dan Rafael published a report repeating team GGG’s assertion that they were willing to fight any of the big names “from junior middleweight to super middleweight

“They went on the record and they’ve campaigned for years that [he] will fight anybody… and anybody means anybody. So I said that I have no problem fighting Golovkin and now all of a sudden it’s a campaign to stay at 160.” - Andre Ward

Tom Loeffler, who said that, “GGG would fight Ward on a 50-50 basis, the best 160-pounder versus the best 168-pounder [at] 164 [and] a 50-50 split on all proceeds”. - June

Loeffler said their primary aim was to unify the 160lb division, but admitted they would move up to 168 for “mega events” against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. or Carl Froch. " As for Ward, Triple G’s “stardom” had now surpassed the American, he argued, and therefore a 50-50 split between the pair no longer made sense." - October

Lets not forget about them turning down Wards offer in 36 minutes... Lets see???

Ward wins the Super 6 beating Kessler Ranked #1 SMW by Ring and WBA Champion) let's not forget it looked like he was about to get TKO'd before the stoppage and then Froch (WBC Champ).

We'll skip Arthur Abraham win that was before Froch

Fight LHW Champ Chad Dawson (Ranked P4P#10) Lets see GGG fans bring up weight drained and ignore Ward at 164...

Kovalov WBO, IBF, WBA Champ. Lets not forget soo many GGG fans said Ward would NEVER fight Kov.

                    Kovalov 2

GGG in meantime waiting on SWW to move up like Canelo and Cotto...

At that point, Golovkin was already pretty known to hardcore fans, but he wasn't making millions yet since he wasn't known by any casual.

Making 1-2 millions against Ward would have been a great payday for him at that point, since he wasn't making 1M per fight yet. And in case of loss, he could have gone back to 160 and persue the best MW's as usual. So Golovkin accepted the offer.

Ward turned the fight down, stating that he had some shoulder and legal issues.

Ward offered the fight to Golovkin again in 2016, when Golovkin was a boxing star in line for a huge (or many) paydays vs Canelo and other big fighters in the MW division.

Kovalev only made 3M (total) in two fights against Ward. Offering Golovkin that type of money, even if upped to 5M, didn't make any sense for moving up when you are about to make 20M+ per fight against Canelo, in your own division.

GGG never ducked Ward. He wanted the fight when it made sense for him. Fortunately for Ward, he could find someone else to make a big fight, and it was Kovalev. And we all know what happened. First fight, Kova won, second fight, Ward won.
