NSB rep points question

Well sometimes I’ve gotten or given green points, and other times I’ve gotten, or seen accounts with black points. It looks the same as the green points squares, but it’s shinier and black. Some may see it as a dark smoke silver or a midnight blue. Not sure what it is or what it does. Can any long-timers enlighten me about this?

I don't worry about the rep thing on here. I've noticed that many terrible posters that are well in the green only are so because they say obvious things that are easy to agree with, non controversial, no humour, etc, and reap rep rewards for that
