Comments Thread For: Stephen Fulton Boxes Past a Game Arnold Khegai For Decision

NEW YORK Stephen Fulton couldn't score the type of one-punch knockout he recorded in his previous fight Saturday night. The undefeated Philadelphia fighter didn't more than enough, though, to fend off rugged Ukrainian Arnold Khegai in their 12-round, 122-pound elimination match at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Fulton dealt well with Khegai's rough approach, out-boxed the previously unbeaten contender and won a unanimous decision in the first of three fights Showtime televised.

BS....the fight was way closer. The Showtime announcers were so one sided.

A lot closer then the judges had.. Fultons not going anywhere. Good jabber, slap puncher with no punch and holds 12 times per round. A bigger puncher knocks him out silly seeing as Fulton eats punches. Also where’s the beard regulation?!

Who else is asking for it? Give it to him, let's see if Fultons game plan works at the upper level.

Way disappointed by Khegai, though. I had bet on him quite confidently to win one way or another, but he was largely ineffective against a man who could be put under pressure rather easily. I was hopeful after watching the third and fourth round, but after that brief moment of success Khegai just lost steam.

Definitely want to see more of Fulton in the future....haven't seen him in action since August on the same card as Brandon Figueroa. Now, that's a fight I'd like to see by the end of the year or early next year.

I believe Fulton needs one more big win before they make the Figueroa fight. On the other hand, Figueroa showed a couple of flaws in the Ceja fight a couple of months back.

The issue here is, Brandon's more marketable than Stephen, so Stephen's team is gonna need to structure his career wisely if he's matched against Brandon and beats him. It's bad enough it'll be for the WBA belt (which everybody seems to have a piece of nowadays), so I'd hate to see him get stuck as a "champion" and his career moves nowhere.

Brandon can be the WBA champ and fight just about anybody because of his fan base, but Fulton doesn't necessarily have that same advantage. I'm loving the Super Bantamweight division right now, though the more marketable fighters seem to be signed to Top Rank.
