Boxers Who Should've Retired Much Earlier Than They Did

There is an old saying that you don't retire from boxing, boxing retires you. Which boxers should've retired before boxing retired them, after what fight and record?

Holyfield after losing to Lennox Lewis or even after beating Hasim Rahman, would've been 35-5-2, instead of 44-10-2.

Mike Tyson after beating Clifford Ettienne. Wouldve finished 50-4 instead of 50-6 and would've prevented two journeyman from beating a legend. However atleast after the fight with McBride Tyson was smart enough to say its time for him to retire if he is getting beat by guys like McBride. Could've went down the Holyfield path.

Roy Jones Jr after losing to Antonio Tarver wouldve finished 49-2 instead of 66-9, and would've still largely preserved his legend and aura of invincibility.

David Haye got beaten up twice by Tony Bellew so it's pretty fair to say he had no business fighting at that point.

Holyfield challenged for the heavyweight title three more times after the Rahman fight. Can't blame him for trying.

His later losses were to James Toney, Chris Byrd, Sultan Ibragimov, and Nikolai Valuev. All champs. Only bad loss was to Larry Donald.

most boxers over the age of 36. Most boxers with over 60 pro fights. GGG and Loma should retire in 4 more fights. Holyfield, Toney, Wlad,Tyson and Marquez all stayed too long among many others. Pacquiao should have already retired by now although he can still fight his ass off. That is not the real point. Hard and numerous head blows take their toll and the real damage may not show up until many years later. Pacquiao usually wins but he is an attacking fighter who has been hit hard and often in the head for many years. Ali and Patterson both stayed too long and it shortened their lives. Some guys have a short pro career but have had as many as 400 amateur fights. 400 amateur fights must be equal to a lot of pro fights.
