  • Comments Thread For: Shane McGuigan Explains Shock at Josh Taylor's Jump To Top Rank

Trainer Shane McGuigan explained that he was shocked when Josh Taylor decided to split from Cyclone Promotions. McGuigan's father, Barry McGuigan heads up Cyclone, and Taylor had been with the company since turning pro in 2015. But earlier this month, it was officially announced that Taylor had signed a promotional contract with Top Rank.

Your heart sank? You mean yours and dad's bank account sank.. Must be a reason Carl and Josh ran for the hills...

You saw what happened with Frampton.

Their head becomes bigger, they believe they're the next superstar, they inevitably end like a flat tire after a while.

Then again, we have already seen that alcohol may be an issue with Taylor.

My prediction is that he will start his decline sooner than expected.

There's too much of this going around nowadays. There must be a big reason in money for these decisions to happen. It seem to me it's quite a big decision in ones life especially at the point in their career where these fighters are. I. E. Frampton, Taylor even Inoue.. I can see if they are unsuccessful or going in the wrong direction but this isn't the case. Must be an awful lot of money dangling in front of them.

Cyclone has two choices. Sue Josh now, or sue him later. Josh can't holler breach and jump, he needs a court order. I know, money talks, but a guy can sit on the shelf for a long time while they argue about it, or he can fight and the money gets tied up in court. I hope Josh knows what he's doing.

Gotta feel for Shane who has indeed done a great job with Josh but ffs you know there's gonna be a sackful of gold for Hank and the fight with Ramirez, assuming he beats Postol, will be a cinch to make. I wish JT had engineered a more graceful parting of ways, though.

              Bollox!

When ballifs arrived at Framptons door looking to recover cyclone promotions debt......what would you do as a fighter?

Frampton was the cash cow but was making less than scott quigg by the time he paid all the McGuigans.

              Taylor done the right thing.

Yeah Barry McGuigan seems shady, if rumours are anything to go by.

Well we already know Frampton took him to court. Now Taylor has left in what seems similar circumstances.

Didn’t McGuigan screw over his manager when he was a fighter? I heard something like that.

Frampton and Taylor are close..... I don't believe Taylor would have taken this lightly, he seems like a straight shooter and a loyal family man.

Best thing to do would be to wait for details from the Frampton court case to see what dirt comes out on Mcguigan, Cyclone, if there is any.

Maybe Taylor spoke to Frampton (as someone he is close to) and realised he wasn't being paid what he felt he earned?

Could be as simple as that.
