Comments Thread For: Canelo Could Headline Overseas Event in 2020, Says De La Hoya

According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez, his boxer could very well fight overseas in 2020. The first fight for Canelo takes place on May 2, as part of Cinco De Mayo weekend. Back in November, Canelo moved up by two weight divisions to score a knockout of Sergey Kovalev at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Canelo should just retire. Hes pretty much done it all with that kovalev win and hes not a big star people make him out to be.

He will fight in May and then late in the year. This 11 fight contract will be very strategic. Investment!

And suddenly the Vegas judges will get dual citizenship for wherever canelo decides to fight.

That is exactly what I was thinking when I saw Japan as one of the countries mentioned. Murata is a big name and draw in his country and can bring in the big money from what has been reported. I could definitely see Canelo fighting him in Tokyo and it's a safe fight for the Mexican, just the way he likes them.
I thought he would go after Smith in great Britain after his poor showing with Ryder, but the scouse is obviously still too high of a risk.
