Comments Thread For: Lawrence Okolie Could See a Move To Heavyweight in 2021

EBU cruiserweight champion Lawrence Okolie could see himself moving up to the heavyweight division in 2021. Okolie has often sparred with heavyweight and says he "never feels out his depth" when trading punches with the most dangerous men in the division. There are ongoing negotiations for Okolie to face dangerous Krzysztof Glowacki for the vacant WBO cruiserweight belt.

Please stink up a few more matchroom shows at CW before moving up to stink up the glamour division!

I like Okolie, I blame his opponents for the boring fights.

Agreed. Okolie is a likeable guy but some, no make that most of his fights have been brutal stinkfests. In saying that, I was at the O2 last October for Taylor Prograis and he produced a cracking finish against.. erm I can't remember who. Wish him all the best but talking about HW is a bridge too far I think.

Dont be shocked if he picks up a belt at heavyweight. Underrated fighter.

He's winning his fights but I'm not sure the quality is too notch and even when he stops opponents the fights are typically mailing, mugging affairs. There's a jab, either he or the opponent falls into the other and then a lot of grappling and short shots.

He seems to have the length and height but how much can he add to his frame without negative impact? The problem I see is that, unlike Usyk or Hunter, he doesn't come off very nimble and if he has some sublime skill I can't see it. I can't imagine how current approach will translate well to bigger opponents.

Okolie's aggressive cuddlnig won't serve him well at HW. The guys are bigger and stronger.
