There's no doubting that McGregor is the biggest star in UFC and he does transcend the sport -- in that sense, a comparison to Ali isn't that egregious, though it's relative. Ali was the biggest name in the world. McGregor is not.

However, McGregor vs Nurmagomedov is nothing like Ali-Foreman. If it happens, it's more likely to be like Ali-Holmes.

That's because MMA is a Savage sport meant for barbaric Savages

Mayweather chooses to partake in a gentleman's sport because it is civilized in nature where you only use your fists. None of that kicking and knees and elbows and headlocks.

In boxing, if you are hurt, you can simply take a knee and gather yourself while the ref gives you a standard eight count. If he sees that you are unfit while he is giving you a standing eight , he will simply stop the fight.

In MMA there is none of that. The ref won't jump in until you actually tap out or getting your head savagely beat in.

I was just about to post that. This fight was just a come back showcase fight to set conor up for bigger paydays in boxing while still contacted to Ufc who wants to launch Zuffa boxing and have alliances with PBC and Mayweather Promotions
