Comments Thread For: Habazin: Ali, Wolfe Would've Beat Shields' Ass; Braekhus Better

NEW YORK Ivana Habazin doesn't even consider Claressa Shields the best, pound-for-pound, among active female fighters, let alone the greatest women's boxer of all time. That distinction, according to Habazin, belongs to Cecilia Braekhus. Habazin has boxed Braekhus, thus she speaks from experience.

Problem is no one in the USA will see braekhus now that she’s on the deadzone

Kinda late in her career to make a push to be a household name in the US anyway. If they didn't care about her before they won't care about her now.

Before I got more into women's boxing I assumed Braekhus was American and wondered why we never heard anything about her yet so much hype around Shields. Obviously quickly realized I was incorrect. Imagine if she was American though, we would never hear the end of how great she is.

Biggest reason nobody has heard of Braekhus is because Holly Holm ducked her like Rid**** Bowe ducked Lennox Lewis.

Instead of losing a female boxing superfight, Holm went full time MMA and won the superfight in that sport against the hypejob Rousey.

Holly Holm is the reason women's MMA exploded while women's boxing stagnated throughout the 2010s.

Although to be fair to Holly, whilst I think she would have lost to Braekhus it ain't unreasonable to think that she understood she had a brighter future in MMA than in boxing given the growing popularity of MMA in the USA and the far greater opportunities for female athletes.

Yeah, but they offered her the biggest purse of her career and the fight in her own home town.

Holm didn't make real money in MMA until she actually won the title.

Originally Holm agreed to fight her in Europe, then she backed out and dropped down to 140.

Then they offered her the fight in Vegas and she turned it down and retired.

Then they offered her the fight in New Mexico and she turned it down again.
