Comments Thread For: Julian Williams: To Fight In Philadelphia As Champ Means Everything

It's been more than eight years since the last time Julian J-Rock' Williams has been able to fight in Philadelphia, but he has never stopped representing or investing into the only city he's ever called home. "They call this the City of Brotherly Love. It's not so much brotherly love, but I'm not gonna sit here pointing fingers and talking bad," noted Williams (27-1-1, 16KOs), a West Philly-born and bred boxer. "I love Philadelphia, that's why I never leave. That's why I never went nowhere."

Now why isn't he a role model? Broner has ten times more fans. Davis has 5 times more fans. Spence got 5 times more fans now he's come out the other side of a car wreck.

Julian, you need to mess up bad somehow and that way you can become a ppv star. At least you should have been in the ring and in Jermell's face.

Because he needs to fit a certain stereotype to be a fan favorite amongst his own people. Needs to go back to the guy he showed he was pre-Charlo loss. Being a good fighter & being humble isn't always the recipe to being a star. At least among certain folks.

It's funny how this works works guys like JRock Andre Ward that don't succumb to all the hype and trash talk and don't get all the adverse media don't have all the fan following, they stay humble and hone their craft and go unappreciated. Then u have a clown like AB and he gets all the hype

You clowns don't know a damned thing about the Black community or who our "role models" are.

Broner & Mayweather make money because non-Black people want to see them humbled and beaten. You like your White & Mexican athletes to be "good guys" who'll beat the big, black boogieman.

I have never met a single Black youth who looks up to Adrien Broner or fxcking Tank Davis & I live around nothing but Black people. Stop it.

J-Rock is my guy, and so is Breadman. Hopefully, they'll rule over 154 for a long time.

Boxers should invest in rental properties as soon as they make enough money. I always think that is a good move that ensures they have some income coming in even when their careers are over.

Yeah, Carl Froch says something like than in his Bio if I recall right. It's pretty much good advice for anyone who earns high but unpredictably, I'd say. Retirement might seem a long way away to these kids when they're starting out but that shit rolls around real fast, then all of a sudden they're gonna have 30, 40 years of life left with no particularly marketable skill cept the ability to hit people really skillfully.

That's part of the reason I won't crap on a fighter for making the 'financial' decision or being a 'businessman'- hell I do my best not to crap on fighters anyway, but who the hell am I to judge a guy for how he makes his money... ain't me getting punched in the head and ain't me gonna be sending his kids to college.

I know a lot of these kids are hotheads and maybe a lot of 'em don't believe they're ever gonna lose or whatever, but every damn boxer should be at least offered some kinda classes in how to look after their money and plan for the future.
