This right here.^^^^^^.People haven't been paying attention this year at all, they would rather live in their false reality. Boxing is thriving right now...it is MUCH better than the HBO days and MUCH more mainstream.
The shoulder programming is key to all of this. PBC took the old UFC on FOX model and turned it up a notch.
Every single main event on regular FOX and FS1 had a PBC Countdown training camp show, a Face to Face and they had the Inside PBC Boxing show airing on main FOX and FS1 with 2 new episodes every month.
This has made Top Rank step it up as well...you are going to see a lot more ESPN coverage in 2020, already starting with their new ESPN Ringside IG and Twitter..which has been getting re-posted by the main ESPN and Sportscenter accounts. Teofimo Lopez was just on Sportscenter yesterday as well...and the ESPN Youtube channel has had a ton of boxing coverage since December.
Showtime needs to turn it up a notch in 2020. We only got 1 All Access all year and it was for AB/Manny...and their "Day in Camp" and other videos have been so random and sporadic...there is no rhyme or reason to how Showtime promotes..but one thing is for sure, they really need more videos on youtube in 2020.
DAZN is dead last. Some constructive advice.....DAZN needs more fighter profile videos and fight preview videos. They literally only did this for Canelo, GGG and Joshua last year......you are not going to gain any leverage or traction with such little output. How come Farmer, Andrade or Haney haven't had a simple training camp countdown show on DAZN USA's youtube yet? How do they expect to build stars or gain any hype/excitement with such poor online marketing and promotional execution?
Nobody in North America has any idea when a DAZN fight is going on because it's completely outside of anything mainstream, and they are doing themselves no favors by the lack of online content (when compared to PBC or Top Rank). I like how they had the DAZN commercial on NBC but they need more...they already know that they won't be featured on Sportscenter or any other sit down sports show in North America..so it's an uphill climb. A message to DAZN...STEP UP your online videos, please take the PBC on FOX model and AT LEAST start doing that on your youtube.....it's a cookie cutter formula that will never fail.
For those living outside of North America, the above is the reality.
I don't understand how DAZN has so much money to get fights yet they lack the basic ingredients to hype up their shows.
They are basically losing money when something so easy as showing the fighters prep in the 3 months they have for camp, yet they don't do it.
SERIOUSLY it's not that hard DAZN and to a lesser extent top rank.
This chit boggles my mind. Lol.Comment

Boxing is making a huge comeback in America.
much of that is down to dazn,Eddie Hearn/matchroom and Anthony Joshua.
that inc the others raising their game as a result and it also brought interest from those people who live in american xenophobic/racist seige mentality...as in it forced them to get off their asses and get involved with the sport whereas before no one gave a fk.Comment

when it comes to **** like that, my thinking is, it is irrelevant to the wider story which is BOXING as a whole.People haven't been paying attention this year at all, they would rather live in their false reality. eg ppl will get drawn to those lesser known names in boxing once they begin to watch boxing again..so it makes no sense to over promote those level of boxers.
when people get a real interest, they do their own research.
the reason pbc cards have done well, isnt because they put on some random content on youtube...its because ppl now are talking about boxing again..and we know why that is.
as far as boxing promotion goes, aj vs ruiz and ksi vs logan paul was as big as it gets for dazn.
let me give you an example
when you sign upto netflixm you do it because you know what type of content you're getting.
they dont need to hype an individual show, they only need to market themselves.
eg
Game of Thrones is on netflix, so ppl sign up
then they discover other shows.
it makes zero sense to market The last kingdom, it wont drive extra subs..the ppl who are fans of GoT will discover Tlk and then hype it themselves.
most of us guys didnt give a fk about pre-fight documentaries when we were watching Matthyse vs Danny Garcia. we knew it would be a ****er.
i guarantee you if a fight is already big, if the story sells itself, ppl will watch it. the youtube media will surround it. it doesnt need extra little thumbnails on youtube or a little advert on CNN or the fking james corden show.Comment

You are going against the grain for everything that has ever worked for sports, and specifically combat sports when it comes to converting casuals into real fans.when it comes to **** like that, my thinking is, it is irrelevant to the wider story which is BOXING as a whole.

The lesser known boxers (mid-tier guys) NEED to get built up in order for them to become bigger stars..it doesn't just happen. It worked with the UFC, and it's working right now with PBC on FOX. They aired another PBC Countdown for the Julian Williams fight yesterday on national television..guess what? Julian Williams is going to surpass Demetreus Andrade in IG followers shortly after his next fight. Guess what? I'm already seeing more activity on my IG, twitter, and social media about the Julian Williams fight than I do for anything DAZN..so guess what? The ratings are going to be well over a 1 million households again.
This is why UFC fans are so invested into their mid-tier guys..for a decade they have been airing shoulder programming for the middle of the road fighters, the same way PBC on FOX is doing it right now. Why do you think so many mid-tier UFC fighters have large IG followings? Their story has been told.
The same thing happened with Tony Harrison..his story was told on FOX, his IG has tripled in followers in just over a year. I bet you if he was on DAZN he would have been completely forgotten about..because they refuse to put any type of quality content on their social media about anyone outside of Joshua, Canelo and GGG. Tony Harrison can now headline a PBC on FOX show as the A side, and pull in numbers.
People CARE about individuals and individual boxers. You can't argue that the PBC on FOX cookie cutter method hasn't worked, because the proof is in the pudding. These type of numbers did not exist before the deal which included the shoulder programming, and the numbers went up instantly. That is not a coincidence. If you live in North America...you will see the commercials on FOX, as well as the programming. You can then follow it up on Youtube, IG, twitter...everywhere...which gets hundreds of thousands of views.. you are basically saying that has 0 impact on ratings....how does that make any sense?
The example you have laid out is precisely why DAZN is going down the celebrity youtube route....pure randomness.
People don't just watch boxing or combat sports for the sake of it being boxing or combat sports...so your netflix analogy does not apply here.
They watch it for the characters involved, their backstory and the significance of the fight in the moment. It has been this way all throughout history.
DAZN is doing a piss poor job of capturing this. Social Media is ALL DAZN has, and they are falling on their face.
There is no network
There is no advertising on TV
There is no television PERIOD.
Yet DAZN can't even get their youtube content right?
no excuses.Last edited by JaBfromTokyo; 01-05-2020, 11:19 AM.Comment

You seem to lack basic reading and comprehension skills so I suspect you’re confused a lot.I dont understand. Does that say they averaged around 1.4million views per fight card? What fight cards did that number or more to average that at 1.4? And if 1.4 is average and Tank Davis did 600k then why am i being told that 600k is proof Tank is the biggest star when he did less than half of average?
Yes im anti PBC, yes i can be argumentative but these numbers keep confusing me.
Tank fights on showtime which is a cable network. Fox is not a cable network.Comment
